CITY OF MCHENRY LANDMARK COMMISSION
MARCH 2, 1993
The regular meeting of the McHenry Landmark Commission was brought
to order at 7:36 p.m. at the McHenry Municipal Center. Members
present were: Donnabelle Doherty, Adele Froehlich, Tom Hopkins,
Carl Fredrickson, Ruth Fenwick, Jean Smith, and Lori Wilhelm.
There were three mayoral candidates present. They were invited to
observe our meeting and get to know our agenda and goals. Nancy
Fike was present too.
Tom introduced our special guest Jerry Peterson. Mr. Peterson
joined us to explain how we can keep the moneys we earn through
fundraising by carrying it over to the following year. He said it
would be easy to establish a "Stand Alone Fund". He said we should
draft a letter to the mayor stating a plan for what we will do with
these accumulating funds. An example would be our Facade
Improvement Grant Fund. Mr. Peterson suggested that we concentrate
on one business district at a time and possibly get the financial
institutions to participate in offering low income loans. Tom said
it was worth looking into. The City Council needs to know what we
an to do and we need their support.
Tom said that if we are able to develop this, perhaps we could go to
business people to talk about improvements to their facades.
Ruth suggested it would be nice to get the sidewalk cover removed
from the China Light building. The Karate building on Riverside Dr.
was sited as one success story.
Tom suggested that we wait until the new City Council members are in
office and then proceed with our letter and plan.
There was a question and answer session with the candidates.
TRADE FAIR
Tom circulated a sign up sheet for members to volunteer their time
to work at the Trade Fair. Tom said we have lots of handout
material and we would display our 1893 fire maps. Donnabelle said
she would call absent members to sign them up for the Trade Fair.

PUBLIC MEETING
Jean reported that the posters for our East Side public meeting were
printed and she distributed some to our members to place in
businesses. Tom reported that a check for $50.00 was mailed to
Scott Wilhelm for printing services. Jean reported that she had
three speakers lined up and all was going well . Lori said she would
contact someone to video the meeting but Jean said she would rather
not have a video taping done.
NEW MEMBERS
Tom reminded us that we need some prospects for new members. He
will be leaving after our April meeting.
Motion to adjourn at 9:17 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Lori Wilhelm
