815)365) -2100 19 The regular meeting of the McHenry Landmark Commission was brought
(8to order at 7:30 p.m. at the McHenry Municipal Center. Members
Public Works, present were: Barb Byron, Marya Dixon, Donnabelle Doherty, Adele
Building and Zoning Froehlich, Jesse Freund, Marlene Goetschel , Tom Hopkins, Phyllis
(815)363-2170 Mueller, Jean Smith, and Lori Wilhelm.
Parks and
Recreation The minutes were amended to include a paragraph that was
(815) 363-2160 inadvertently left out. Ed Coughlin (Director of project for fourth
Police grade children) is asking us to provide a tour of McHenry's historic
(Non-Emergency) homes. Jean suggested we give him a brochure of our plagued homes
(815)363-2200 and he would be able to conduct a tour on his own. Carl said the
minutes were approved as amended.
FINANCIAL REPORT
Mayor Tom stated that none was received. He would remind Chris that we

Tom stated that it was learned that the George Phalin House on
Treasurer Richmond Rd. has been purchased by Lee Cooney. He intends to raise

it to build an apartment building. Tom said we need to find the
history of the property. Adele said she would call Terry Phalin.
Aldermen
WARD 1 OLD HOUSE SUPPORT GROUP
William J. Bolger This group will be meeting in the McHenry Municipal Center on
Toni Donahue January21 , at 7:30
p.m. Tom said he would make arrangements for
WARD 2 about 35 people. Coffee will be served. Mike Ward will speak on
Gary W. Lieder taxes and the Old Homeowner. We need not attend unless we want to.

WARD 3 Membership Policy Proposal
Raymond Smith Tom stated that our bylaws say the Mayor shall appoint the chairman
Dennis L. Adams of our Commission after we make recommendations. It was agreed that
WARD4 we should leave this as it is.

Randy Patterson In regard to our attendance rule; specifically, the requirement of
calling the chairman when unable to attend. Discussion was held and
some changes were agreed by all members, ie: that meeting dates
should be written into the bylaws and it is not necessary to be
required to call the chairman when unable to attend.

Tom lead a discussion on his proposed plan. Many suggestions were
made. Tom will write up a plan accordingly for our approval .
LIBRARY OF INFORMATION
Marlene and Barb volunteered to organize our library of information
on McHenry's Buildings etc. , so it will be easy for anyone to
access. Adele offered to do some typing for Jesse and Donnabelle.
Donnabelle suggests it would be helpful to have some workshops to
work on our new survey. It was suggested that we keep the old
survey for a back-up. Donnabelle said she would check with Barb
Gilpin on the availability of space at the Municipal Center for
these workshops.
PUBLIC PROGRAM
Tom asked about our April program. Jean said she will start calling
people to line up participants.
ANNOUNCEMENT
Tom announced to the membership that he intends to resign from the
Commission in April when his term is ended. He finds it difficult
to make time for family and commute back for meetings since his move
to Barrington. The members expressed disappointment although they
understand his situation. Tom said he would probably become
involved with the Barrington Historical Society.
