Mayor FINANCIAL REPORT
`-William J. Busse Tom stated that the financial report included an expenditure of
City Clerk $195.00 for copies made in the City Clerk's office. "This seems
Barbara E. Gilpin excessive" said Tom and he wondered if there was some mistake. Jean
said she had some copies made for the public program. Donnabelle
TreasurerCairns
had copies made of a form for the historic survey. Tom said we
Lillian
should check on the price per copy. Tom reported that our balance
on hand is $2,036.89.
Aldermen
WARD 1 DEMOLITION PERMITS
William J. Bolger Tom reports that four demolition permits have been issued. One for
Toni Donahue the Weber House (Riverside & Broad St. ), one for the Scarborough
WARD2 House (Broad & Park St.) , and one for the Simon-Hansen House (Pearl
Gary W. Lieder & Richmond Rd). The Weber House has already been torn down and it
Terence W. Locke was done without our notification: Tom said he talked with Mr.
WARD 3 Lobaito at the planning office. He explained to him that we must be
Raymond Smith notified immediately of every permit so that we may have the
Dennis L. Adams opportunity to decide whether it should be saved or not based on
WARD4 historic value.
Cecilia Serritella
Randy Patterson Tom said the Simon-Hansen House would be down before winter.
Several members expressed a desire to see the interior. A time was
set for Tues. October 13, at 7:30 a.m. to meet at the house for a
tour.
There was a fourth permit issued for a residence at 3024 Virginia
... St. Tom called Nancy Fike for an opinion. She said it was not
worth saving.
ACQUISTION OF LAND BY PARK DISTRICT
Tom reported that the City Park District has acquired land at
McCullom Lake. The land is adjacent to Petersen Park and includes
the old Howard Equestrian Barn and sixty-eight acres of open space.
He asked the members if we should send a letter of support to the
City Park District stating that we agree that the barn and open
spaces are to be preserved. The Commission agreed. Tom said he
would write the letter.
PUBLIC PROGRAMS
Jean reported that the West Side Program was creating much interest
and should be well attended. She said she has many very old
pictures that she has decided not to display. The reason is lack of
security and only four members would be present. Tom said he would
bring handout materials to the set-up meeting on Friday morning at
9:00 a.m. Jean said the program would be audio taped by the City's
equipment. Wireless microphones would be rented for $40.00. Lori
said she needed a purchase order for this.
LANDMARK SCHOOL ANNIVERSARY
The Commission feels that we should encourage the school district to
apply for Landmark status before the anniversary in 1994. An
application should be sent to the district.
Tom promises to have a Commission plan ready for us at the next
meeting.
Motion to adjourn was made at 8:35 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Lori Wilhelm
