CITY OF MCHENRY LANDMARK COMMISSION
JUNE 2, 1992
The regular meeting of the City of McHenry Landmark Commission was
brought to order at 7:30 p.m. at the McHenry Municipal Center.
Members present were: Marya Dixon, Ruth Fenwick, Carl Fredrickson,
Jesse Freund, Adele Froehlich, Marlene Goetschel , Tom Hopkins, and
Jean Smith.
The minutes were approved as read.
Jean told us that Lori is doing a fantastic job.
FINANCIAL REPORT
Last month's report was the true end of the year. We spent $513.00
out of our $3,000 budget. The budget this year is $2,000.
Barb Gilpin stated that all conferences are being cancelled with the
exception of Tom's for lack of money.
A request was made by Carl Fredrickson. He and his kids want to
ride on a fire engine during the Fiesta Day parade.
Tom is to meet with our new Building Inspector on June 3rd.
Two people are to be contacted when Tom is out of town. They are
Adele and Carl .
DEMOLITION UPDATES
The Northwest Herald is getting information from Tom Bolger.
The Backhaus House will be similar to the Eppel House. We must try
to move the house or save it before it is torn down.
Regarding Simon and Backhaus - Tom was contacted by a contractor in
Woodstock. They are trying to fix up houses for poor working people.
The Scarborough House located at Park and Broad is probably not
moveable.

Research materials are available for restoring buildings. Fire maps
are to be sent to Main Paint for dry mounting.
Tom has been contacted by Rich Magrath regarding the Historic
Preservation Commission. We are invited to regular monthly meetings
if we care to attend. He will keep us advised as to County
activities.
FACT SHEETS
The first fact sheet was accepted. Jean was not happy with the
second sheet. Jean wants a picture of hotel since that was the
first building plagued.
ACCOMPLISHMENTS
We are in the process of building a Resource Library. We need to
find ways to get information.
CRACKER BARREL SERIES
We might get old timers to talk to the public. It was suggested to
take pictures of buildings in McHenry every couple of years.
Chamber Of Commerce Display Window
(1 ) Sample of plaque
(2) Pictures of plagued houses, etc.
(3) Use City newsletters to run short histories of plagued
houses and mention Preservation Library.
(4) Article asking about old McHenry - We need information.
(5) We need stamp to mark our literature.
Jean made a motion to pass on our July meeting. Motion passed
unanimously.
Marlene made motion to adjourn at 8:35 p.m.
