SIMON BUILDING
Tom reported that he received a phone call from Tom Bolger in
response to a recent letter from us concerning the Simon House on
Richmond Rd. and Pearl St. Mr. Bolger stated that the building will
be demolished and the property will be a parking lot. This will be
accomplished this summer. He stated that the building did not have
any historical value and he would like to have the history of it.
Mr. Bolger offered the building to the Landmark Commission if they
can move it. Adele said she would contact the Simon girls for
information on the history of this building.
DEMOLITION ORDINANCE
Tom reported that we have had no reponse from the City Council
concerning the ordinance. He will call the Mayor to inquire about
it's status.
COMMITTEE REPORTS
Public Meetings and Tours: Carl reported that he is working on
plans to set up a tour in the fall to the Frank Lloyd Wright Home or
something in that area. It will be coordinated with the Park
District. Lori asked Carl if he has planned anything for this
winter, a local program for example. Some discussion was held on
different possibilities and Carl said he would try to line up
something.
Historic Sites: Donnabelle presented a form to the members as a
sample of what will be used to update our Historic Survey. Barb
said that Dave Gelwicks has a survey and history of the Waukegan Rd.
area dating back to when the Indians were there. Donnabelle stated
that all of the buildings in McHenry (both new and old) will be
surveyed block by block and street by street. Photos will be taken
of each one.
Some discussion was held on what to do to improve our image as a
viable part of the City Government. It was suggested that we try to
have an article in the paper each week or month telling the history
of a certain plagued home along with a picture.
Jean Smith suggested we enter the Trade Fair. She will check to see
if there's adequate space at the City's booth. There's also an area
where nonprofit groups can set up free of charge. It was thought
that perhaps we could assemble there. Jean said she would call Barb
Gilpin.
Marlene moved to adjourn at 8:37 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
.. Lori Wilhelm
