THE CITY OF MCHENRY LANDMARK COMMISSION January 7, 1992 Clerk's Office and Administration (815)363-2100 FAX: (815) 363-2119 Public Works, The regular meeting of the City of McHenry Landmark Commission was Building and Zoning called to order at 7:30 p.m. at the McHenry Municipal Center. (815)363-2170 Members present were: Marya Dixon, Donnabelle Doherty, Adele Parks and Froehlich, Jesse Freund, Marlene Goetschel , Tom Hopkins, Jean Smith, Recreation Barb Byron, Carl Fredrickson, and Lori Wilhelm. Our guests present (815) 363-2160 were: Mr. and Mrs. John Swierk. Police (Non-Emergency) The minutes of the previous meeting were amended to state that Andy (815) 363-2200 Halik should be invited to attend one of our meetings instead of all of our meetings. The minutes were then approved. FINANCIAL REPORT Mayor Tom met with Sue Christensen to straighten out our report and it `— filliam J. Busse shows that we have $1539.38 in our Facade Improvement Grant Fund. City Clerk It was moved by Jesse that we award John Swierk $1200 leaving a Barbara E. Gilpin balance of $339.38 in the grant fund. It was seconded by Carl and passed unanimously. Treasurer Lillian Cairns PLAQUING VOTE A vote was cast to approve the awarding of Landmark status to the Aldermen West McHenry State Bank Building. The results were for approval WARD 1 with each member giving the building an average of 75.7 points. William J. Bolger Toni Donahue DEMOLITION PRESERVATION UPDATE WARD 2 A resolution was passed by the City Council to authorize the Gary W. Lieder Building and Zoning Director to notify the Landmark Commission of Terence W. Locke any demolition permit applications which are submitted to his WARD3 office, but not to delay issuance of these permits by waiting for a Raymond Smith response from the Landmark Commission. Voting nay were: Donahue, Dennis L. Adams Smith, and Serri tel l a. WARD 4 Cecilia Serritella Adele stated she is still looking into the history of the Whiting Randy Patterson Farm or Backhaus property. Tom passed out a copy of a letter sent to Tom Bolger of the McHenry State Bank. It concerned the Simon/Hansen House. Tom also reported that the Scarborough House was not condemned. Andy Halik will keep us informed. Mr. and Mrs. John Swierk would like to upgrade their plaque to brass instead of the usual wooden one. It would be at their expense. This was approved by the members of the Commission. Page 2 COMMITTEE REPORTS Historic Sites: Donnabelle and Jesse are working on the survey. Historic Markers: Carl reported that the Wright Plus Tour on May 16th would be $30.00 per person plus the cost of a bus. Marlene suggested that we do this through the Park District. Carl said he would contact them and get more information by next meeting. Tom asked the members to look over a list of proposed goals for our Commission and it will be discussed at the next meeting. It was suggested that we invite Andy Halik to our next meeting to discuss how we can best work together. It was agreed and Tom said he would invite him.
