Police FINANCIAL REPORT
(Non-Emergency) A financial report was received reporting a balance of $2,755.47.
(815) 363-2200 The report was not broken down into budget money and Facade Grant
funds as was requested so it really didn't tell us what we wanted to
know.
Mayor COMMITTEE REPORTS
`-William J. Busse Historic Sites: Tom stated that we will vote next month on the John
City Clerk Swierk plaque application. Jesse will be finishing the business
Barbara E. Gilpin survey soon. Jesse and Donnabelle will get to work to finish the
survey of historic buildings.
Treasurer
Lillian Cairns
Historic Markers: No report.
Aldermen City Advisory: Marya reported that the Simon House on the corner of
WARD 1 Pearl and Richmond Rd. has been purchased by the McHenry State Bank
William J. Bolger and is in danger of demolition. The Scarborough house on Broad and
Toni Donahue Park has been condemned. Marya suggested we produce a calendar with
WARD2 old McHenry buildings to raise some money. After some discussion,
Gary W. Lieder it was decided that it would be too expensive a project. The First
Terence W. Locke National Bank has one out for 1991 and it would be difficult to sell .
WARD 3
Raymond Smith Public Programs: Jesse said he had a request for the Pistakee Bay
Dennis L. Adams Program. Tom recommended we present it in cooperation with the
WARD 4 Library or other organization. This would probably increase our
Cecilia Serritella potential audience. This was agreed to be a good idea.
Randy Patterson
Publicity: Adele reported that we had a small article in the City
Newsletter with a picture about our quilt raffle. It was suggested
that we take a picture of our presentation of a check to John Swierk
to submit to the newsletter.
The slide program on Old Barn buildings was presented by the
Conservation District on a very snowy night, was attended by
Landmark Commisssion members: Jean Smith, Donnabelle Doherty, and
Lori Wilhelm. They reported it was well worth braving the elements
for and should be considered for one of our Public Programs.

Tom reported that Andy Halik was not happy with our letter to the
City Council because it did not state that he had been notified of
the demolition of the FS Building. Tom stated that the Mayor has
directed the Building and Zoning Commission to notify us in writing
of any demolition permits applied for and that no permit should be
issued sooner than three days after application.
It was suggested and agreed that we should invite Andy Halik to
attend our meetings.
Adele stated that the Goodman house in Country Club Subdivision is
of historical value and it was agreed that we should keep a close
eye on it.
Tom reported that the Backhaus property (The Whiting Farm) on
Crystal Lake Rd. and the home thereon was purchased by the Whiting
family in 1868 and owned by them until 1927. The house is believed
to be the only brick four-square in McHenry County. Tom stated that
we need to put together a good history on it to establish this house
as an important architectural structure.
It was suggested that we write a letter to Tom Bolger (McHenry State
Bank) and ask him to talk with us about the future of the Simon
House.
Tom reported that he received a letter of resignation from David
Mohan. He reported that he received a request from a man doing
promotion work for the Whale's Tail asking for a history of the
property. Jesse said he had that information.
Barb Byron suggested that a notice be published in the City
Newsletter telling homeowners that our commission will help them
with histories of their property so that they can then apply for
Landmark status.
Meeting adjourned at 8:30 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Lori Wilhelm
Secretary
