City Advisor
Marya reported that the farm house on the Whiting Farm on Crystal
Lake Rd. will be demolished. It is not in the city limits now but
will be incorporated soon. We all agreed that we should look into
what the county might do to prevent the demolition.

After some discussion about Landmark houses in and around our City
it was brought to mind that the Bob Petersen farm on McCullom Lake
Rd. was very old and in unchanged vintage condition. It was
suggested that we should invite Mr. Petersen to talk with us about
what he might have in mind for the future of his property.
Publicity
Adele reported that the Star Newspaper did not print our story on
the quilt but the Herald did. She suggested that we should try to
get our news items into the City newsletter. She feels it is more
well read.
STUDENT MEMBER
We are without a student member on our Commission at this time and
Tom Suggested we look into acquiring one. Jean volunteered to call
Mr. Dodd at the East Campus High School for some likely candidates.
We all agreed that it should be someone genuinely interested in
local history and our work.
LETTER TO THE CITY COUNCIL
Tom presented a letter for approval by the members. This letter is
to be sent to the City Council and the Mayor concerning the FS
Farmer's Co-op Building and it's demolition. He added that Andy
Halik of the Building and Zoning Dept. claims he told Tom that the
FS building was about to be demolished. Tom does not recall this
but admits it is possible. We all agreed that such information
should be given to us in writing.
The Commission approved the letter with some changes to strongly
urge the Council to adopt the County ordinance for our own. Tom
added that it would take much time and effort to enforce such an
ordinance but it would be well worth it.
Barb Gilpin said the next City Council meeting would be Nov. 13th at
8:00 p.m. We all agreed to be there 10 minutes before the meeting
to read the letter to the Council and state our case.
DEMOLITION
Tom reported that Andy Halik told him about the demolition of the
Freund building next to Sullivan's grocery on Elm St. It is
condemned and full of rats. The Scarborough building on the corner
of Court and Broad St. is in bad condition and the neighbors want it
removed. We should look into it's architectural and historical
value.
Lori offered the members a set of goals for study and discussion at
the next meeting.
Motion to adjourn at 8:55 p.m.
