NO FINANCIAL REPORT
QUILT RAFFLE
Jean reported that we need someone to sell tickets at Sullivan's
Grocery store. Jean also reported that our request to sell tickets
at the McHenry Chamber Golf Outing Dinner was denied because it
would compete with their own raffle. We were allowed to display
the quilt with a sign.
RADIO AND TV PROMOTION OF RAFFLE
Lori reported that her appearance on the Chamber Cable TV show
went well . Showing the quilt was an important part of it. Tom
reported that his radio interview also went well and was infor-
mative for the listeners.
FACADE IMPROVEMENT GRANT
Tom presented the commission with copies of the revised Facade
Improvement Grant Program for our comments. Discussion was held
on the Grant criteria. Barb asked "How many people know it's
available?". She said she knows people are confused as to the
requirements. It was suggested that the information should be
distributed to the business people of McHenry in our Main St. ,
Green St. and Riverside Drive areas. We will discuss this again
next month.
PLAQUE APPLICATION
Tom reported that an application was submitted by John Swierk
for the West McHenry State Bank building. Tom read a short history
of it and said we should schedule a volunteer visit to the build-
ing just to view the outside, with an inside tour in November.
Tom also indicated that the outer architectual details would not
be in place until mid-November. It was then agreed that we wait
until then to make a visit and vote immediately afterwards.
LANDMARK COMMISSION COMMITTEES
A list of committees was distributed to the members and we then
volunteered as follows: Historic Sites; Jesse and Donnabelle,
Historic Markers; Tom and Lori , Public Programs & Education;
Carl and Marlene, City Advisory; Marya and Barb, Special Events
& Fund Raising; Jean and Ruth, Publicity; Adele and Lori .
LANDMARK SCHOOL
Marlene volunteered to investigate the 100 year anniversary of the
school and the possibility of plaguing it.
NEXT YEARS EVENTS
Tom requested that we give this some thought and try to come up
with some ideas. "A History Month in McHenry" was suggested by
Jean.
QUILT RAFFLE DATE
We were reminded that the drawing for the quilt would be held
on the steps of Landmark School on September 15th at 2 o'clock
and we should all try to be there.
MOTION TO ADJOURN AT 8:45 pm.
Respectfully submitted,
Lori Wilhelm,
Secretary
