HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - 3/5/1991 - Landmark Commission f CITY OF MCHENPY LANDMARK COMMISSION \- 5 MARCH 1991 The regular monthly meeting of the City of McHenry Landmark Commission was called to order at 7:30 P.M . Members present were Marya Dixon , Donna Bell Doherty , Adele Froelich , Jesse Freund, Susan Goldberg, Marlene Goetschel , Tom Hopkins, Jean Smith , and Lori Wilhelm; absent were Marya Dixon , Frank Gans, David Mohan , and Don Porter . Guests present were Barb Gilpin and Jerry Benes. The minutes of the previous meeting were corrected as follows: Betty Smith was a guest at the February meeting, the minutes were approved as corrected. There was no financial report . Don Porter has submitted his resignation from the Commission due to increased responsibilities in his job. Susan Goldberg is attending her final meeting before moving to Elgin . Requests for new members will be published in the City Newsletter and applications will be mailed to 6 possible candidates that had expressed an interest in the Commission earlier . Donna Belle Doherty and Jesse Freund completed the list of McHenry historic structures from the survey . A copy was given to Barb Gilpin as a record for the City and to be used as a reference in monitoring demolition permit applications. The previously scheduled April public program by Craig Pfankuche has been re-scheduled for the May 7 meeting because the April meeting location will not be in City Council chambers due to it being used as a polling place on that date . Publicity for the program will be included in the City Newsletter . The survey concerning the proposed Demolition Ordinance will also be mentioned in the newsletter . The meeting between Don Porter and Lori Wilhelm to plan this year' s fall fundraiser did not take place because of Don' s resignation . A meeting for all members of the Commission who can attend has been scheduled for Wednesday , March 20 , 7:00 P.M . at Loris house to discuss this. The former Andreas Antique store , the house at the northeast corner of Green and Pearl Streets has new Owners interested in a plaque . They have been told to pick up an application at City Hall . Ideas were mentioned for possible future public programs: the speaker that had the program at the Library last month , another program by Nancy Baker , restoration and renovation subjects. Commission sub-committees were discussed to spread the workload of `-- the Commission . Sub-Committees will be as follows: 1 . Publicity Adele 2. Plaguing 3 . Education/Programs 4. Fundraiser Planning Lori 5. Building Research Donna Belle , Jesse 6. City Interface Marya Donna Belle recommended starting the quilt raffle ticket sales earlier in the year , such as May or June . Tom Hopkins recommended that a new sponsor be found to help increase credibility and sales . Barb Gilpin will ask the Chamber if they will sponsor the raffle . A Facade Improvement Grant application was received by the City on the deadline of February 15. Because it was difficult to include consideration of the application for the March meeting, and the applicant did not need a quick decision , the application will be considered at the April meeting. The April meeting will tentatively be held at the Chamber office in the conference room, due to City Council chambers not being available . The meeting was adjourned at 8: 40 P .M .
