Members present were: Marya Dixon, Donna Belle Doherty, Adele Froelich, Jesse Freund, Marlene Goetschel , Tom Hopkins , Don Porter, Jean Smith, and Lori Wilhelm; absent were: Frank Gans , Susan Goldberg, and David Mohan. Guests present were Jerry Benes (candidate for Alderman, Ward 2 ) . The minutes of the previous meeting were approved, no financial report. Tom Hopkins discussed his meeting with the City Council Building and Zoning Committee on January 2 concerning the proposed Demolition Ordinance. The Committee has proposed narrowing the scope of the ordinance to protect only plagued structures for submittal of approval to the full council . The Committee also requested that the Landmark Commission send questionaires to owners of the existing plagued struct- ures to determine the level of support for the ordinance. Tom Hopkins and Marya Dixon will prepare and mail the questionaires . The Landmark Commission discussed the Building and Zoning Committee ' s proposal concerning the scope further and decided that the commission would not support the narrowed scope. Tom Hopkins will attend the next scheduled meeting of the Committee on January 16 and inform them that the Commission would like to pursue the original scope by determining the level of public support before proceding with further discussions . Marva Dixon has sent invitations to local civic organizations to attend our February meeting to discuss a joint effort for the Fall fundraising event. Only one response has been received to date. The public program to be held at the April 2 regular meeting of the Landmark Commission has been re-confirmed. Adele Froelich will arrange for publicity prior to the program. A donation box will be placed to pay the speaker. Marlene Goetschel is the acting Chair following the resignation of Nancy Fike. She has agreed to retain that position until regular elections are held in May. She will also clarify if the postion is to be an elected position by the members of the Commission, or appointment by the Mayor. The Landmark Commission discussed needing clarification of the role of the Commission in the City. The Commission will invite members of the City Council and possibly the Plan Commission to the March meeting to discuss the Commission ' s role, duties and powers . Some members of the Commission feel that we are concentrating too much on fund-raising and not receiving adequate support from the City Council for performing other duties described in the original ordinance creating the Commission. The meeting was adjourned at 8 : 55 P.M. Respectfully submitted, 4,44 Tom Hopkins Secretary
