CITY OF MCHENRY LANDMARK COMMISSION
4 September 1990
The regular monthly meeting of the City of McHenry Landmark Commission
was called to order at 7 : 30 P.M. Members present were: Nancy Fike,
Tom Hopkins , Marya Dixon, Lori Wilhelm, Adele Froelich, Jesse Freund,
Frank Gans , Donna Belle Doherty, Marlene Goetschel , Don Porter, Jean
Smith, and Susan Goldberg; absent was David Mohan.
Minutes of the previous meeting were approved by unanimous vote. The
treasurer ' s report indicated expenditures totaling $169 . 80 and receipts
of $151 . 00 during July, all attributed to the Farmer ' s Market.
Owen House update: the City has not yet taken any further action.
Building Official Andy Halik has not yet inspected the structure.
Nancy has sent a letter to the Welsh Society concerning the history and
status of the structure, and the possible need for funding assistance
if the house is to be restored.
Fall Heritage Tour and Farmer ' s Market: over $600 has been collected
to date on the sale of quilt raffle tickets . The Pace house at 3606
John Street has been added to the tour to replace the Schaefer house
withdrawn by the Owners . Tom will order 250 house tour tickets . The
sign to be located on the landscaped island at Green Street and Waukegan
Road will be erected Wednesday evening, September 5 by Tom Hopkins ,
Jesse Freund, Don Porter and Steve Fike, at 7 : 00 P.M. Commission
members signed up for duty times for the house tour and the Landmark
Commission booth at the Farmer ' s Market. Promotional posters were
distributed to local business for display today by various members of
the Commission. The Packer Club may have as many as 12 cars on display
at the Farmer ' s Market; other entertainment will include square dancers ,
an accordian group, and dancers from Mar-Ray Dance Studio. 13 booths
have been committed to date.
The Commission members agreed to meet at Landmark School at 10 : 00 A.M.
on Saturday, September 15, the day before the event for set-up and
final preparations .
Nancy Fike reported that the book "Gift of Christmas Past" has been
ordered for donation to the library in memory of Dr. Goetschel .
Nancy encouraged members of the Commission to attend a workshop to be
sponsored by the IHPA and IAHPC in Chicago on October 13 . The cost of
the workshop is $20 .
The meeting was adjourned at 8 : 55 P.M.
