HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - 7/3/1990 - Landmark Commission CITY OF MCHENRY LANDMARK COMMISSION 3 July 1990 The regular monthly meeting of the City of McHenry Landmark Commission was called to order at 7 : 35 P.M. Members present were: Nancy Fike, Tom Hopkins , Marya Dixon, Lori Wilhelm, Adele Froelich, Jesse Freund, David Mohan, and Jean Smith; absent were: Frank Gans , Donna Belle Doherty, Marlene Goetschel , and Don Porter. Guests attending the meeting were: Mayor Busse, and Kathy of the City Building Dept . Minutes of the previous meeting were approved unanimously. There was no treasurer ' s report, although that has been promised by the City for future meetings . Mayor Busse and Kathy were attending the meeting for a scheduled meeting with the owner of the Owen House, the meeting having been canceled by the Owner earlier in the day, Nancy had been unable to contact the Mayor with this information. The Mayor reported that the City has notified the Owner of numerous existing dangerous conditions at the Owen House and the possibility of undertaking condemnation procedings . All notices have been ignored. The Mayor also reported that Perry Moy is interested in purchasing the property and would examine the possibilities of restoration, although negaotiations with the Owner have apparently broken down. The Mayor will attempt to contact the Owner directly by phone. Dr. Goetschel (husband of Marlene) recently passed away. The Commission will donate a book to the library in his memory. The proposed budget for the current fiscal year was approved by the City Council. Tom Hopkins reported that he has been making only slow progress on the Preservation / Demolition Ordinance proposal, and hopes to have it ready for the August meeting. The City Planning Commission has reviewed the new Comprehensive plan, and based on the comments submitted to the City Council , is apparently not in favor of maintaining the existing use character of the Downtown areas . The Heritage Tour / House Walk still has only 2 houses . Adele has contacted numerous others without success . Commission members will now begin contacting homeowners in areas farther from Landmark School . Tom Hopkins will contact Fred Batt, Director of Public Works , to determine the feasibility of installing a banner or sign advertising the Farmer ' s Market & Heritage Tour on the triangle at the corner of Waukegan Road and Green Street. Additional suggestions were made for entertainment at the Farmer ' s Market: amateur show, Sweet Adelines , high school Swing Band and other singers . These groups will be contacted by Commission members for a report at the next meeting. An advertisement has been placed in the county 4-H Newsletter for participation, the growers and last years participants have been contacted. Raffle tickets for the quilt have been selling. Photographs of the quilt are needed to assist in promotion, especially for ticket sales at City Hall and the Chamber office. These will be available soon. It was determined to wait until after Fiesta Days to distribute tickets to City Hall and the Chamber office for ticket sales . City of McHenry Landmark Commission 3 July 1990 page 2 `' The schedule for Fiesta Days Art in the Park was determined for the Landmark Commission booth. Tom Hopkins will ask the Chamber if raffle tickets can also be sold at the Chamber booth during Food Fiesta.
