HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - 6/5/1990 - Landmark Commission - CITY OF MCHENRY LANDMARK COMMISSION 5 JUNE 1990 �— The regular monthly meeting of the City of McHenry Landmark Commission was called to order at 7 :30 P .M . Members present were Nancy Fike , Tom Hopkins , Marya Dixon , Lori Wilhelm , Adele Froelich , Jessie Freund , Frank Gans , Donna Belle Doherty , Marlene Goetshcel , David Mohan , Don Porter , and Carol Jean Smith . No members were absent , Hank Nell having resigned from the Commission . The minutes of the previous meeting were unanimously approved . There was no financial report . Don 's Submarine Shop had contacted Nancy Fike expressing interest in obtaining a plaque for their building . Nancy urged them to pick up an application at City Hall . Adele Froelich has written an article for publication in the Commissioner Newsletter and submitted it to Mike Ward of the Illinois Historic Preservation Agency as had been requested by him prior to the previous month 's meeting . Tom Hopkins presented the color samples submitted to him by Wayne Steinmetz for the Facade Improvement Grant program on his building on Riverside Drive as had been requested earlier . The siding is to be a white Alcoa "double 4" aluminum , the trim colors are Sherwin Williams "Umbrella Black " and "Monorail Silver" (actually gray) . No opposition to the colors was expressed by the Commission . Tom Hopkins will inform Mr . Steinmetz to proceed based on the earlier conditions of approval for the grant . Owen House update : the Commission determined that since there has been no progress in identifying the owner of the property or insuring it 's preservation , that the public be invited to the next Commission meeting for an open discussion on options and to survey public opinion concerning efforts to preserve the structure . The Tribune , Herald and Star will be contacted to publicize the discussion . The Commission plans to meet at the property prior to the July meeting . As there has been no recent progress on the commercial district building histories , members were asked to volunteer for additional buildings to research . Nancy Fike presented the proposed budget as discussed at a special meeting last month by the budget committee . Lori Wilhelm made a motion to approve the budget as submitted , seconded by Adele Froelich , the motion carried by unanimous vote. Fiesta Days activities were discussed : the antique car will again be used in the parade , David Mohan and Lori Wilhelm volunteered to ride ; Tom Hopkins will again make arrangements for the booth in the Art in the Park . ' ' - Fall Heritage Tour and Farmer's Market : 2 houses have been confirmed for the tour , a third house is still needed . Don Porter and David Mohan have researched the possibilities of sponsoring a Soap Box Derby and found that due to the cost , requirements for sanctioning , v�. and the time required to organize the event , it would not be recommended for this year . Don will do additional research and report to the Commission again next month . Entertainment has been arranged for the square dancers to do a return performance , and possible have the High School swing band for the first time . Raffle tickets were distributed to Commission members to begin selling for the quilt raffle . The Commission voted to purchase an advertisement in the "Peddler" for $35 . Existing officers were nominated to serve another term , all agreed . The meeting was adjourned at 9 :05 P .M . Respectfully submitted , Q� Al,z Tom Hopkins Secretary
