HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - 5/1/1990 - Landmark Commission City of McHenry Landmark Commission minutes from the 1 May, 1990 meeting The regular meeting of the City of McHenry Landmark Commission was called to order at 7 : 30 P.M. Members present were : Marya Dixon, Lori Wilhelm, Adele Froelich, Jesse Freund, Donna Belle Doherty, Marlene Goetschel , David, Mohan, Don Porter , and Nancy Fike. Absent were : Tom Hopkins, Frank Gans , Hank Nell . The minutes of the previous meeting were approved. There was no financial report . New member Carol Jean Smith was welcomed to the Landmark Commission. Under Old Business it was reported that early picture post cards indicated a turret on the Wayne Steinmetz building at 1323 N. Riverside Dr. . Mrs . Steinmetz had contacted Chairman Fike and stated that she and her husband were interested in our suggestions for color combinations for the facade of their building that were in keeping with the Facade Improvement Grant application. Chairman Fike advised them to contact Commission Secretary Tom Hopkins for help. There was no update on the Demolition Ordinance . In response to a letter sent to the Chamber of Commerce requesting matching funds for the Facade Improvement Grant , Chamber Director Curt Hockett told Chairman Fike that the Ex. Board had discussed the request but were not sure if they would have available money. If they did, they would donate "something" . If nol they would work our request in their budget for next year ' s funds . In further discussion the Commission "mulled" over the idea of approaching other service groups in McHenry to see if they would participate in the Facade Improvement Grant fund. No vote was taken at this meeting. It was also discussed holding a possible public program on building aesthetics , color, design, materials . In other old business , no additional work had been done on the building histories . At the next meeting, a list of buildings that need histories done will be circulated. Under New Business , a request from Mike Ward of the I1 . Historic Preservation Agency for an article on the McHenry 2 . Landmark Commission for the Commissioner Newsletter will be undertaken by Adele Froelich. A budget committee was appointed and consists of Lori Wilhelm, Donna Belle Doherty, Marya Dixon and Nancy Fike . A meeting was set for 7 : 00 A.M. , May llth at Windhill Pancake House . Also , members with their terms of office up were polled to see if they would stay on the Commission. The Fall Farmers Market and Housewalk was next on the agenda. Market Chairman Lori Wilhelm reported talking to a rep. of the Packard Club. That club was meeting shortly and would decide on their participation in the Market . A date was set to take publicity photos of the quilt that will be raffled off and Adele Froelich reported that she had gotten permission from the owners of the old Frisby house and Schaeffer house on John and Green to open their homes for the Sept . 16th housewalk. Nancy Fike was still waiting for a reply on the old Thompson home on Main St. A discussion developed over whether to extend the housewalk to houses across town from Landmark School because of the increasing difficulty in securing homes . Don Porter and David Mohan were asked to check into the possibility of holding "soap box derby" type races down Waukegan St . the day of the Farmers Market and Housewalk. In years past such races had been held there. An additional organizational meeting for the Farmers Market and Housewalk was set for 7 : 30 P.M. at Lori Wilhelm' s at 505C Thornwood Dr. . On a motion by Marlene Goetschel and a 2nd by Lori Wilhelm the meeting was adjourned at about 8 : 35 . Respectfully submitted,
