5 September 1989
The regular monthly meeting of the City of McHenry Landmark Commission
was called to order at 7 : 30 P.M. Members present were: Nancy Fike,
Tom Hopkins , Marya Dixon, Lori Wilhelm, Mary Lou Schaeffer, Adele
Froelich, Jessie Freund, Donna Belle Doherty, and David Mohan (the
new Student Member) . Absent were: Dick Rabbitt, Hank Nell , Frank Gans ,
and Marlene Goetschel .
David Mohan read a prepared statement expressing his interest in the
Landmark Commission and the history of McHenry.
Minutes of the previous meeting were clarified in respect to plaguing
of Landmark School . No application was submitted. Minutes were
approved.
The plaque for Christopher ' s Men ' s Wear on Main Street was ready. Nancy
will contact Chris Wertz and the City to arrange the City Council
meeting presentation.
McHenry Drapery has expressed interest in and is reasearching for a
plaque application for the building on Green Street.
The Owen house has been sold into a blind Trust according to research
done by a Chicago Tribune reporter preparing for an article to be
published in the Tribune on Wednesday, Sept. 6 . The status of the
structure will have to be closely watched by the Commission.
Members of the Commission were urged to read the recently completed
"Downtown Development Plan" prepared by Gann Assoc. for the City, and
to attend the public meeting to be scheduled in late September to
comment on the Plan before the City Council acts on its adoption.
Preparations for the Fall Heritage Tour and Farmer ' s Market were
proceding with final promotion: announcements on the Chamber radio
program, elementary school newslatters , signs to be mounted on the
fence at Landmark School . The Commission will have a booth to provide
general information and to sell popcorn, apple cider, taffy apples , and
donuts . Set-up time at the school is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 16
from 2 : 00-5 : 00 P.M.
The meeting was adjourned at 9 : 00 P.M.
