The City of McHenry has agreed to fund the construction of the
proposed Business District Historic Markers , and maintain them. Since
the markers are to be located on private property, the City has requested
that a letter from each property owner be provided to the City approving
the placement and maintainance. The Commission agreed that a form
letter should be prepared b_y the Commission or the City for this purpose
`— to provide consistency.
The stzrveys are almost complete, with Dick Rabbitt ' s route being the
only forms which have not been turned in. Photography and review by
Commission members for comments is still in progress . Upon completion,
a committee will be formed to tabulate the results .
Frank Gans finally made his presentation on the history of Riverside

for a f_ew years during the earlv 1900 ' s . He related many humorous
tales of he hotel business . The presentation was recorded by Nancy
Fike.
Alderman Mike Teta had contacted Nancy to d_scuss the passibilities
for formation of historic districts within the City. The new Zoning
Ordinance is currently being reviewed by the City Council before
adoption.. Since the formation of historic districts can be a
complicated task, Nancy contacted a state agency, which will be sending
her information. If istr_icts are established, this will probably
have to take place after adoption of the new ordinance.
The McHenry Economic Development Commission is curr_ently working with
McHenry County College on preparation of a seminar_ concerning the
revitalization of downtown business districts . More informa.tion will
be available at a later date ,
The meeting wa adjourned at 8 : 30 P.M. after which the Commission
enjoyed egg nog and cookies provided by Nancy. Thanks .
