Board of Police Commissioners
March 14, 2018
Chairman Rick Huber called the meeting to order at 4:00 PM in the Police Administration Conference
Room with the following Commissioner present, Michael Roberts and Ramon Gregorio. Also present
Police Chief John Birk, Deputy Chief Thomas Walsh, HR Manager Ann Campanella, Police
Administrative Assistant Shuett, and Deputy Clerk Geraghty.
Public Comment
None.
1. Motion to Approve February 12, 2018 Meeting Report
Motion by Roberts, second by Gregorio to approve the February 12, 2018 Police Commission
meeting report as presented. All ayes, motion carried.
2. Unfinished Business
Lateral Entry Police Officer Eligibility List.
Chief Birk announced the interview process for the establishment of the Lateral Entry Police
Eligibility List is underway and the application process will close on March 9. The lateral
interview dates previously established were Tuesday, April 3 and Saturday, April 7; interviews
would be 30 minutes each. Human Resources will contact the applicants and schedule a time on
those two dates.
Police Candidate Eligibility List.
Application posting for the regular Eligibility List takes place on March 19 and application will
be accepted through 5 PM, April 23.
Orientation is set for Wednesday, May 9 at 7:00 PM in the City Council Chambers. The written
exam is scheduled for Saturday, May 12 at 9:00 AM and Oral Interviews will tentatively be
scheduled on Tuesday, May 29, Thursday, May 31, and Saturday, June 2. As in the past, scoring
will be sorted after the interviews on Saturday, June 2.
Chairman Huber suggested only one day would be needed to complete interviews for seven
lateral entry applicants. The board agreed to conduct all the interviews on Saturday,
April 7, and to leave April 3 reserved.
Personnel Updates
Officer Hendrickson was released to solo patrol 10 day earlier than anticipated.
Officer Derek Schmidt continues his Step 3 training.
A hopeful new hire from New Mexico passed the psych and poly exams. Two officers are
leaving for New Mexico on March 15 to conduct a background check, with results available early
next week. If he passes his background, the candidate will be given a conditional job offer
pending successful completion of fingerprinting and medical exam.

3. New Business
None.
Deputy Chief Walsh left the meeting at 4:19 PM.
4. Communications
Motion by Roberts, second by Huber to approve payment of a professional services invoice from
Standard for the James Castaneda psych exam for $644.45, and Blue Line Invoice for Lateral
Candidate Posting for $348. All ayes, motion carried.
5. Review of Lateral Candidate Applicants.
Seven applications met the minimum requirements and the applications were presented to the
Commission for review.
6. Adjournment
Motion by Gregorio, second by Huber to adjourn the meeting at 4:55 PM. All ayes, motion
carried.
