He noted Officers Gregorio and Mecher are concluding their ride-along patrol status and will be going solo on April 1, 2010. Both will continue on their current shifts through the end of April when shift changes will occur. The department currently keeps an officer on a shift for four months at which time they rotate to another shift for a four-month duration. Deputy Chief Jones noted the new officers would initially be assigned as cover cars in order to be able to observe departmental procedures further. Starting off as a cover car will provide opportunity for additional training in departmental procedures. Some discussion occurred regarding the use of in-car dash cameras as a good training tool. Chief Brogan noted the quality of the new officers and how well they are fitting into the department is a direct reflection on the entire hiring process. He stated a good process results in good officers. He commended the Commission on a great job in developing and following through on hiring process.
