Board of Police Commissioners
November 7, 2012
Commissioner Haley called the meeting to order at 4:00 PM in the City of McHenry Aldermen’s
Conference Room. Also in attendance were Commissioner Gregorio and Commissioner Roberts. Others
present, Police Commander Laura King and Executive Assistant Marci Geraghty.

Consideration of October 3, 2012 Minutes
Motion by Roberts, seconded by Gregorio to approve the minutes from the October 3, 2012 Police
Commission meeting as presented.
Voting Aye: Gregorio, Roberts, Haley
Voting Nay: None
Motion carried.
Update on Recent Hires
Commander King reported Officer Lusmann is performing field training with Officer Mucciante.
Lusmann will begin second phase of his training in the field with Officer Foley.
Update on Promotion Process
Chairman Haley reported oral interviews for the sergeants’ promotion exam will begin this Saturday at
7:30 AM. As previously discussed by the commission, Scenarios (in order) 4, 3, 5, 1, 2 from the Chiefs
Points will be presented to candidates. Commissioners will confer at the end of each interview and assign
a number value to each candidate that will be added to their overall score. By the end of the day Tuesday,
all interviews will have been conducted. A list will be prepared depicting total scores for candidates #1
through #11 with #1 on the list the first to be promoted when a position is available.
The breakdown on points is as follows:
Written Exam 40%
Oral interview by Commission 45%
Credit for service years 5% (5 point maximum - .5 point per years of service)
Chief’s Merit Points 10% (1-10 points)
Chairman Haley said it would be interesting to know how many sergeants, police officers, Deputy Chiefs,
and K-9 officers have been sworn-in by the current commission. Commander King offered to get the
information for the commission.
Bills for Approval
Roberts made a motion, seconded by Gregorio to authorize payment of $375 for annual membership fee
to the IFCA.

Other Business
2013 Meeting Schedule. The 2013 Police Commission meeting schedule was presented for
consideration. The commission will continue to meet on the first Wednesday of each month unless prior
notification is presented for a change in meeting day and time.
Gregorio made a motion, seconded by Roberts to authorize payment of $375 for annual membership fee
to the IFCA.

There being no further business to discuss, Gregorio made a motion, seconded by Roberts to adjourn the
meeting.
