Board of Police Commissioners
July 2, 2014
Chairman Rick Huber called the meeting to order at 4:00 PM in the City of McHenry Aldermen’s
Conference Room. Other Commissioners in attendance: Mike Roberts, Ramon Gregorio. Others present:
Deputy Chief of Police John Birk, and Executive Assistant Marci Geraghty.

Consideration of June 4, 2014 Minutes
Motion by Mr. Roberts, seconded by Mr. Gregorio to approve the minutes from the June 4, 2014 Police
Commission meeting as presented.
Voting Aye: Roberts, Gregorio, Huber
Voting Nay: None
Absent: None
Motion carried.
Unfinished Business
a) Update: SRO Program. Deputy Chief Birk reported Officer Rick Rewiako is scheduled to begin
duty as the city’s new SRO Officer in August one week prior to school starting. Commissioner
Roberts (speaking as D-156 Superintendent) reported District 156 intends to organize a meeting
the first week in August with the SRO, Chief, and D-156 attorney to discuss the new program. He
will confirm the date next week.
b) IFPCA Email. Chairman Huber reported he received an email from the IFPCA regarding Fire &
Police Physical Fitness Testing and a recent case in which the Federal Court granted summary
judgment to a male plaintiff who failed the sit-up requirement administered by the FBI Academy.
Deputy Chief Birk noted the City of McHenry outsources physical testing to NIPSTA.
c) Officer Zack Pierkarski graduated from the academy on June 26th and is working a patrol shift
with FTO Prather.
d) Officer Candidate Josh Conway was sworn -in on June 30th. He will fill the position vacated by
former Officer Derek Kay who resigned to take a position with the Village of Gurnee. Conway
will leave for PTI in Champaign, IL on July 6th and is expected to graduation on September 14th.

e) The status of the Eligibility List was discussed. On behalf of Chief Jones, Deputy Chief Birk
requested this topic to be placed on the August meeting agenda. The commission concurred.
f) Deputy Chief Birk said he will have an update on the COPS Grant next month. If approved a
second SRO officer position may be possible. Deputy Chief Birk reported the funding available
is less than originally proposed.

There being no further business to discuss, Mr. Roberts made a motion, seconded by Mr. Gregorio to
adjourn the meeting.

Absent: None
Motion carried.
The meeting was adjourned at 4:22 PM.
Next meeting of the Police Commission is August 6, 2014.
