HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - 4/3/2013 - Police Commission City of McHenry Board of Police Commissioners April 3, 2013 Police Commissioner Chairman Sean Haley called the meeting to order at 4:00 PM in the City of McHenry Aldermen’s Conference Room. Other Commissioners in attendance were Gregorio and Robert. Others present, Chief of Police John Jones and Executive Assistant Marci Geraghty. Public Input: None. Consideration of March 6, 2013 Minutes Motion by Mr. Roberts, seconded by Mr. Gregorio to approve the minutes from the March 6, 2013 Police Commission meeting as presented. Voting Aye: Gregorio, Roberts, Haley Voting Nay: None Absent: None Motion carried. Communications No report. Unfinished Business No report. New Business Personnel. Chief Jones announced a McHenry Police Officer may accept a position with the Village of Huntley. School Safety Committee. Commissioner Roberts reported the newly formed School Safety Committee has met three times since the school shootings in Sandy Hook, NJ. The committee is comprised of representatives from McHenry Police, Fire District, and School District 15 & 156. Mr. Roberts said he is impressed with Chief Jones’ leadership of the committee and the remarkable job the committee is doing to work together to keep our schools secure. The Police Department is also making recommendations to enhance building security in all McHenry schools. Mr. Roberts said the School Resource Officer program will be considered by District 156 in the next budget cycle. Chairman Haley said the commission would appreciate updates on the Safety Committee’s activities and meeting schedule. Chief Jones said Police Commissioners are welcome to attend Critical Incident training at McHenry West Campus High School on May 29th at 9:00 AM. The McHenry Township Fire Protection District and officials from School Districts 156 and 15 will participate in the event. City of McHenry Board of Police Commissioners April 3, 2013 Page 2 Patrol Officer Eligibility List. Expiration of the Patrol Officer Eligibility and Sergeant Promotion lists was discussed. Commission Meetings. Chairman Haley suggested the commission consider cancelling the May and July meetings due to lack of an agenda. It was the consensus of the Commissioners to cancel t he May and July meetings, but to be prepared to reschedule the meetings should matters arise. Commission Terms. It was noted Mr. Gregorio’s term expires on April 30 th. Mr. Gregorio said he will serve another three-year term. Mr. Roberts’ term expires in 2014 and Chairman Haley’s term expires in 2015. Adjournment There being no further business to discuss, Mr. Gregorio made a motion, seconded by Mr. Roberts to adjourn the meeting. Voting Aye: Gregorio, Roberts, Haley Voting Nay: None Absent: None Motion carried. The meeting was adjourned at 4:45 PM.
