HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - 3/5/2014 - Police Commission City of McHenry Board of Police Commissioners March 5, 2014 Commissioner Mike Roberts called the meeting to order at 4:00 PM in the City of McHenry Aldermen’s Conference Room. Other Commissioners in attendance: Ramon Gregorio and Chairman Sean Haley via teleconference. Others present: Chief of Police John Jones, Deputy Chief of Police John Birk, Executive Assistant Marci Geraghty, and Rick Huber, citizen. Public Input: None. Consideration of December 4, 2013 Minutes Motion by Mr. Gregorio, seconded by Mr. Haley to approve the minutes from the December 4, 2013 Police Commission meeting as presented. Voting Aye: Gregorio, Haley, Robert Voting Nay: None Absent: None Motion carried. Unfinished Business a) Update on New Officers. Police Chief Jones reported Officer Lazicki has completed his FTO training and is working on the Midnight shift. Officer Klasek is in Step 3 of his FTO and is expected to be released to solo duty on the afternoon shift in 21 days. b) Commissioner Seat Vacancy. Chief Jones introduced Mr. Rick Huber to the commission and announced Mayor Low’s intention to appointment Mr. Huber to the Police Commission at the March 17th Council meeting. Mr. Huber will replace retiring Chairman Sean Haley for a term expiring on April 30, 2015. It was noted Mr. Roberts’ term expires April 30, 2014 and Mr. Gregorio’s term expires April 30, 2016. c) SRO Program. Chief Jones reported the City of McHenry has reached a tentative agreement with High School District 156 to reinstitute the School Resource Officer program. The McHenry City Council and D-156 School Board will consider the matter at their respective board meetings on March 17th. Upon approval of the program, McHenry will hire a new officer. In anticipation of the approval, the next officer on the eligibility list is scheduled to complete poly and psych testing. It is the department’s intention to swear-in a new officer candidate by the end of April in time to attend the academy and be ready to take on SRO duties when school commences in August. Chief Jones reported the next eligible candidate is Zachary Piekarski, #7 on the list. D.C. Birk noted candidates #1 and #2 were hired, # 3 did not meet all of the requirements; and #’s 4, 5, and 6 have accepted positions with other agencies. Birk addressed the commission with a proposal to amend the timeline used to establish the Eligibility List. D.C. Birk said McHenry competes with several agencies in the area for available candidates. City Attorney McArdle will be consulted about the proposal and his findings will be reported to the Commission in April. Communications a) Bills for Approval. The Center for Therapeutic Services & Diagnostics $600 Theodore Polygraph Service $135 Mr. Gregorio made a motion, seconded by Mr. Haley to approve the bills as presented: Voting Aye: Gregorio, Haley, Roberts Voting Nay: None Absent: None Motion carried. Adjournment There being no further business to discuss, Mr. Haley made a motion, seconded by Mr. Gregorio to adjourn the meeting. Voting Aye: Haley, Gregorio, Roberts Voting Nay: None Absent: None Motion carried. The meeting was adjourned at 4:30 PM. Next meeting of the Police Commission is April 2, 2014.
