Police Commissioner Chairman Richard Huber called the meeting to order at 4:06 PM in the City of McHenry Aldermen’s Conference Room. Other Commissioner in attendance was Ramon Gregorio. Absent: Michael Roberts. Others present, Chief of Police John Jones, Deputy Chief of Police John Birk and Administrative Assistant Joan Lunsmann . Public Input: None. Consideration of October 1, 2014 Minutes Motion by Mr. Gregorio, seconded by Mr. Huber to approve the minutes from the October 1, 2014 Police Commission meeting as presented. Voting Aye: Gregorio, Huber Voting Nay: None Absent: Roberts Motion carried. Unfinished Business: Dep. Chief Birk updated those present on recent hires: Ofc. Piekarski has been released to solo patrol and is doing well. Ofc. Shafer is doing very well at PTI, with one of the highest grade points of any recent hire at this point. His graduation is scheduled for 12/18/14. Ofc. Conway is in Step 2 of field training. Ofc. Peter Nester has completed his last day of actual work, taking benefit time to complete his time up to his official resignation date of 11/23/14. Chief Jones spoke about the upcoming testing process for new officers. 100 applications were given out, 41 applications were returned and accepted. Wednesday, Nov 12, 2014 at 7:00 pm is mandatory orientation for those applicants accepted to continue the process. Saturday, Nov. 15, 2014 at 8:30 am is the written test. Oral interviews will be scheduled after the test is scored. The Chief proposed dates of Tuesday, 12/9, Saturday, 12/13, and Tuesday, 12/16. Chief Jones will reach out to Dr. Roberts as to availability for those dates. Dep Chief Birk will forward the set of questions to be used to the Commissioners by e-mail to review prior to next meeting. Comm. Huber asked how the questions will be presented to the applicant. Chief advised that is set by each group individually. The primary concern is that each applicant be asked the same questions. Questions used this tim e will be the same questions used the previous testing. Copies of the applications will be provided to the each group to review prior to the oral interview. Dep. Chief Birk advised that the majority of applicants from the last eligibility list did not re - apply. They will be added to the new eligibility list at the same score as last list, with a one year expiration date. The Chief advised that previously the group of interviewers will meet after all interviews for the day are done, and re-cap and score the applicants, creating a spread sheet of scores. Once completed, the written test scores are added to the oral interview scores to create the list, at a 50%/50% balance. The department will provide food and drinks for the interviewers during the process. The Chief advised the Commissioners that a Sergeants exam will be required next year. New Business None discussed. Communications A letter was presented to Chairman Huber to sign, verifying that the Police Commission follows CALEA standards in all decisions. Letter forwarded to CALEA office. The Chief advised the Commissioners present that the Commissioners are welcome to attend the public input session of the CALEA accreditation process in the first week of December. Commissioner Huber will be available if needed for an individual interview. The public input session is December 4, 2014 beginning at 4:30 pm. Adjournment There being no further business to discuss, Chairman Huber called for adjournment. Motion made by Commissioner Gregorio, seconded by Commissioner Huber.
