HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - 10/1/2014 - Police Commission City of McHenry Board of Police Commissioners October 1, 2014 Chairman Richard Huber called the meeting to order at 4:00 PM in the City of McHenry Aldermen’s Conference Room. Other Commissioners in attendance: Ramon Gregorio and Michael Roberts. Others present: Chief John Jones and recording secretary Marci Geraghty. Public Input: None. Consideration of September 3, 2014 Minutes Motion by Mr. Roberts, seconded by Mr. Gregorio to approve the minutes from the September 3, 2014 Police Commission meeting as presented. Voting Aye: Roberts, Gregorio, Huber Voting Nay: None Absent: None Motion carried. Unfinished Business Personnel Update:  Officer Conway graduated from PTI on September 30th and is now training with FTO Polidori on the dayshift.  Officer Piekarski is in Step 2 of his field training.  Officer Pete Nester submitted his resignation effective November 18, 2014.  Officer Candidate Samuel Schafer was sworn-in on September 22nd and is now attending PTI. New Eligibility List. Chief Jones reported the deadline to submit police officer application packets is October 10th. Applications will be reviewed October 11th through November 10th. Orientation for applicants and their families will be held on November 12th, at 7:00 PM in the City Council Chambers. The written test is scheduled on November 15th at 9:00 AM. SRO Program & Grant Application. Chief Jones reported the city’s application for a COPS Grant was unsuccessful. Twenty-five agencies in Chicago and six statewide received funding. Chief Jones will apply next year. School Resource Officer Rewiako continues to split his time between East and West Campus. New Business: Commissioner Roberts received information from the IFPA about HB 5485 that if passed, would impose minimum manning requirements for fire personnel. A discussion ensued on the possibility of the bill expanding to police staffing. Chief Jones commented he was familiar with the bill and noted it would be difficult for small municipalities to comply with the minimum staffing requirement. Chief Jones will keep the board updated on the status of the proposed bill. Bills for Approval: The Blue Line $348 re employment ad Stanard & Assoc., Inc. $395 re Samuel Schafer Mr. Roberts made a motion, seconded by Mr. Gregorio to approve the list of bills as presented. Voting Aye: Gregorio, Roberts, Huber Voting Nay: None Absent: None Motion carried. Adjournment There being no further business to discuss, Mr. Gregorio made a motion, seconded by Mr. Roberts to adjourn the meeting. Voting Aye: Gregorio, Roberts, Huber Voting Nay: None Absent: None Motion carried. The meeting was adjourned at 4:30 PM. Next meeting of the Police Commission is November 5, 2014.
