Board of Police Commissioners
August 7, 2019
Chairman Rick Huber called the meeting to order at 8:00 AM in the Police Administration Conference
Room with the following Commissioner present, John Jones. Also present was Chief John Birk, Deputy
Chief Tom Walsh and Administrative Assistant Debbie Shuett. Absent Mike Roberts.
Public Comment
None.
1. Motion to Approve June 5, 2019 Meeting Report
Motion by Chairman Huber, second by Jones to approve the minutes from the June 5, 2019 Police
Commission meeting as presented. All ayes, motion carried.
2. Unfinished Business
Treston Schoeny, Christopher Ucho, John Staines, Blake Brittain and Diana Hernandez. Treston
Schoeny and Uchoa turned down job offers. Uchoa accepted position with Niles Police
Department. Schoeny accepted position with Arlington Heights Police Department.
Hired Diana Hernandez, who is currently in Police Academy. John Staines in field training
program. Waiting results from his State Certification test that he took on August 1st. If he fails the
test, he will have to go to the academy. Blake Brittain lasted in the Police Academy for only 1 ½
days. Received is resignation via text message.
3. New Business
Currently have 4 openings for Police Officers. Have 2 academy slots reserved in September. City
Council passed changes to Lateral Entry Police Officer Application. Human Resources has been
taken out of the hiring process. Only have HR set up medical appointments.
Currently posted for lateral list on Blue line and also on the City of McHenry’s website. Have
collected about 13 complete applications. Have received 3 applications from Lateral list, would
like to try to set up interviews sometime next week, may be start at 8:0 am.
4. Communications
The following bill(s) were presented for approval:
Stanard & Associates $1185.00

Theodore Polygraph Services Inc. $350.00
(Candidates Hernandez and Brittain)

5. Adjournment
Motion by Chairman Rick Huber, second by John Jones to adjourn the meeting at 8:25 AM. All
ayes, motion carried.
