Board of Police Commissioners
August 5, 2015
Chairman Rick Huber called the meeting to order at 4:00 PM in the City of McHenry Aldermen’s
Conference Room with the following Commissioner present: Ramon Gregorio and Mike Roberts.
Absent: None.
Also present: Chief John Jones, Deputy Chief John Birk, HR Manager Ann Campanella, and recording
secretary Marci Geraghty.

Consideration of July 1, 2015 Minutes
Motion by Gregorio, seconded by Roberts to approve the minutes from the July 1, 2015 Police
Commission meeting as presented.
Voting Aye: Gregorio, Robert, Huber
Voting Nay: None
Abstaining: None
Not Voting: None
Absent: None
Motion carried.
Unfinished Business
a) Police Sergeant Exams
Chief Jones announced 16 officers have registered to take the Sergeants Exam. The written test will
be given on September 12. I/O Solutions will proctor the exam at $75 per candidate and $500 for
administrative fees. The Chief will interview the candidates for “Chief points,” which will be added
to their scores after Police Commission interviews.
The Commission tentatively agreed to hold the Oral Interviews on October 6, 8, and 13. DC Birk will
establish a scheduled. All points will be tabulated by November 4th. Only Commissioners will
participate in the oral interviews and they will not be aware of point standings to ensure the process
remains objective. Scoring for the exam will be apportioned as follows:
40% Results from written exam
45% Results from oral interviews
05% Years of service
10% Chief Points
b) SRO Update
The second School Resource Officer position was approved by the High School D-156 Board of
Education and Officer Jason Ducak was assigned the position at East Campus and Officer Rewiako is
assigned to West Campus.
c) Personnel Update
Newly hired Officer Brett Kinney will most likely be released frrm FTO earlier than expected.
Officer Kinney was previously an officer for the Village of Huntley.
Chief Jones reported the department may potentially be in a position to hire two officers. Officer
Gregorio may accept a job with the Village of Huntley and Officer Gandor’s disability pension
decision may create an opening. In anticipation, a reservation has been secured for a candidate to
attend the Police Academy in September.

Next meeting of the Police Commission is October 7, 2015.
