HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - 7/1/2015 - Police Commission City of McHenry Board of Police Commissioners July 1, 2015 Chairman Rick Huber called the meeting to order at 4:00 PM in the City of McHenry Aldermen’s Conference Room with the following Commissioner present: Ramon Gregorio. Absent: Commissioner Mike Roberts. Also present: Chief John Jones, Deputy Chief John Birk, and recording secretary Marci Geraghty. Public Input: None. Consideration of June 3, 2015 Minutes Motion by Gregorio, seconded by Huber to approve the minutes from the June 3, 2015 Police Commission meeting as presented. Voting Aye: Gregorio, Huber Voting Nay: None Abstaining: None Not Voting: None Absent: Roberts Motion carried. Unfinished Business a) Police Sergeant Exams Chief Jones and Deputy Chief Birk presented questions/scenarios for the interview portion of the sergeants exam. Commissioners are encouraged to develop their own questions and email them to Deputy Chief Birk so they can be added to the interview summary. Registration period expires July 15th. As of today, 15 officers are registered to take the exam. The written test will be give on September 12; and the oral interviews portion of the exam will be in October or the first part of November. Only Commissioners will participate in the oral interviews and they will not be aware of point standings at the time of the interviews to ensure the process remains objective. Scoring for the exam will be apportioned as follows:  40% Results from written exam  45% Results from oral interviews  05% Years of service  10% Chief Points Chief Jones expressed outside community service and involvement; how the candidate motivates underlings; and the manner in which they order administration policies they may not agree with are important factors when evaluating candidates. b) Additional SRO Position Update The second School Resource Officer position was approved by the High School D-156 Board of Education. As a result, Brett Kinney who is ranked in the #1 position on the eligibility list was offered and accepted a position with the city. He will be sworn-on on July 16th at 8:00 AM. Officer Kinney is an experienced officer and comes to McHenry from the Village of Huntley. The SRO open application process will begin July 13th. The SRO will be selected through internal interviews. c) Personnel Update Ian Abrahamson #2 on the eligibility list withdrew his name. Next on the list is Tyler Lamz who recently accepted a position with the Village of Carpentersville. Chief Jones stated when Officer Gandor’s request for disability pension is settled, an opening will be available. In anticipation, a reservation has been secured for a candidate to attend the Police Academy in September. New Business None. Communications The following bill was presented for payment: I/O Solutions $150 Gregorio made a motion, seconded by Huber to approve bills as presented.
