The following Commissioners were present, John Jones and Mike Roberts. Also present was Chief John Birk, Deputy Chief Tom Walsh and Administrative Assistant Deb Shuett. Public Comment None. 1. Motion to Approve March 4, 2020 Meeting Report Motion by Police Chairman Sue Meyer to approve meeting minutes. John Jones, second by Mike Roberts to approve the minutes from the March 4, 2020 Police Commission meeting as presented. All ayes, motion carried. 2. Unfinished Business Personnel: Ashley O’Herron doing very well. Received a letter of recognition from a citizen when Officer O’Herron was dealing with her 14 year old child. Handled situation very well. Henri Krueger, who came from Lake County College, released from Training and is doing well 3. New Business Since COVID 19 on a hiring freeze. Will have no discussion until sometime in September. Are still 3 Officers down #48 and #49; #47 was to replace Joe Lazicki who left. With Phase 4 of the COVID19 which should occur on Friday; ready to resume process of Eligibility list. Would like to have to orientation process sometime in July and the testing in late July early August. Would like to start the interviews August 3rd or later. 50 people are eligible to take the test, not sure how many will remove themselves from the process with everything that is going on. May use Council Chambers or Rec Center for social distancing. Would like to have the orientation on a Wednesday or Thursday with the testing being held on a Saturday. SRO still on going in the schools as of 4 weeks ago; waiting on the school district to make a final decision and also waiting on the Governor’s office to make a final decision. 2 4.
