HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - 6/5/2019 - Police Commission City of McHenry Board of Police Commissioners June 5, 2019 Chairman Rick Huber called the meeting to order at 8:00 AM in the Police Administration Conference Room with the following Commissioner present, Michael Roberts and John Jones. Also present was Chief John Birk, Deputy Chief Tom Walsh, Attorney Dave McArdle and Administrative Assistant Debbie Shuett. Public Comment None. 1. Motion to Approve March 6, 2019 Meeting Report Motion by Huber, second by Roberts to approve the minutes from the March 6, 2019 Police Commission meeting as presented. All ayes, motion carried. 2. Unfinished Business Eve Kulcsar turned in resignation. Personnel Updates – John Adams on light duty, calf muscle. Tina Noyes is expected to be back to full duty today, June 5th. Adriana Birk will be back June 24th. Jim Harris on light duty, shoulder injury. Katelyn Lorenz is out, involved in car accident. 3. New Business New Police Commissioner John Jones was introduced. Oath of Office was given by Dave McArdle to Police Commissioners Mike Roberts, Richard Huber and John Jones. Each May a Chairman and Secretary need to be appointed by the Police Commissioners. Mike Roberts nominated Rick Huber as Chairman-second by John Jones. John Jones nominated Mike Roberts as Secretary-second by Rick Huber. Sgt. Kevin Cox retiring June 25, 2019. Brian Aalto will be next Sergeant. Swearing in will take place at City Council Meeting on Monday June 17th at 7:00 pm. Police Commissioner Mike Roberts will be present. Trying to hire 4 new Police Officers. Swearing in will take place on June 17th at 8:00 am in the classroom. Police Commissioner Mike Roberts will be present and also witness. Oath of Officer for swearing in new Officers should be witnessed by Police Commission and given by Chief of Police or his designee. Christopher Ucho was first person on Lateral List has declined position- wants to work in larger city. Treston Schoeny passed all tests and is all good. John Staines also passed everything and also good to go. Next two hires Diana Hernandez passed physical, waiting for psychological test. Blake Brittain passed background. Psychological and physical will take place this week. They will both be off to the SLEA Academy. Down to Sam Savage on Lateral list-did not pass background check. Chief not happy with Lateral list of candidates. 2 Officer Dinka Malik will be going to Arlington Heights Police Department soon. Staffing levels very low. Usually takes about 10 months of training to get a candidate to be able to be on the street. Options may re-post a lateral list. Sheriff’s Department does not rank Lateral lists, can choose anyone on the list. May change rules, keep the numbering system in the background, and just post the Lateral list in alphabetical order. Run new lateral list and merge with old lateral list that expires in April 2020. Both Lateral List and Eligibility List may change to test every year. Also change schooling from Bachelor’s Degree to Associates Degree, needs to pass City Council. 4. Communications The following bill(s) were presented for approval: Stanard & Associates $790.00 (Candidates Ucho and Schoeny) Theodore Polygraph Services Inc. $350.00 (Candidates Staines and Schoeny) 5. Adjournment Motion by Mike Roberts, second by John Jones to adjourn the meeting at 9:20 AM. All ayes, motion carried.
