RE: "DO THE RIGHT THING"
Sgt. William J. Brogan will present to the City Council the November 1998 recipients of the
"DO THE RIGHT THING" award. Attached are the applications submitted by citizens who
were either affected by, or noticed someone who performed a good deed. The four
recipients (two are on one application) are Jose´ Ortiz and Joey Nanez of Riverwoods
School, Brian Connors an employee at D&J Automotive, and Telina Pawelczak of McHenry.
Each recipient will be presented with an award consisting of dinner for four at McDonald's
Restaurant, a "DO THE RIGHT THING" certificate, and a $100.00 savings bond sponsored
by Gary Lang Auto Group, TCI, First National Bank of McHenry, and Centegra.

RE: McHenry Township Fire Protection District
Assistant Chief Steve Laing of the McHenry Township Fire Protection District will give a
demonstration of the recently purchased Argus Thermo Imaging Camera. This is an
infrared camera that allows the user to see any object emanating heat in a totally blind
environment. Assistant Chief Huemann will also be present to aid in the 10 minute
presentation.

RE: Ordinance Approving a Variance to allow Two Principal
Buildings on a Single Zoning Lot (File #Z-450).
RECOMMENDATION: To pass the attached ordinance.
Background
Attached is the Ordinance required to approve the Variance for Colin and Anna MacMeekin
considered at the City Council Meeting on December 30, 1998.
A condition limiting the use of the converted garage to permitted uses in the O-1 and
O-2 zoning districts has been included as Section 3 of this Ordinance. Section 4 of the
Ordinance provides that this condition would no longer be in effect if the residential
structure were demolished.
