RE: Water Meter Maintenance Worker
Attachments: 1. Job Description Water Meter Maintenance Worker
At the July 18, 2001 City Council meeting a number of purchases were approved relating to
the city assuming the responsibility of reading water meters. As you know, NICOR
currently performs this task but will be eliminating this service at the end of this calendar
year. In order to prepare for this transition, it is necessary to fill the two budgeted positions
for water meter reading prior to the end of the year.
In anticipation of the usual learning curve with all new employees and the amount of work
that must be done before the changeover occurs, it is necessary to hire the two new
employees by early October. This will provide ample time for the Water Division to
acclimate themselves with their new duties.
The new position title is Water Meter Maintenance Worker. This is already included as a
grade 7A in the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the city and the Teamsters
(representing the Parks & Recreation and the Public Works Departments). The salary
range is $31,460 to $42,943; top pay is reached after 10-years. The attached job
description has been updated to include the new duties, tasks and general requirements
necessary to perform the job.
It is recommended that the City Council approve the updated job description and authorize
the advertisement for two Water Meter Maintenance Workers.
