RE: Request for Class G Liquor License – Michael’s Bistro
Recommendation: 1. To approve the request for a Class G Liquor License from Michael’s
Bistro, Inc., 1249 N. Green Street.
Attachments: 1. Letter from Michael and Barbara Susong
2. Copy of Liquor License Application
A liquor license application was received from Daniel and Barbara Susong, owners and
operators of Michael’s Bistro located at 1249 N. Green Street for a Class G liquor license. The
Susong’s currently hold a Class H liquor license at this location. Pursuant to the attached
letter from Mr. & Mrs. Susong, they would like their restaurant to offer a limited mixed drink
menu in addition to their wine and beer choices.
As described in Chapter 4, Section 4-6, page 187 of the City of McHenry Municipal Code
(copy attached), a Class H liquor license authorizes the retail sale of beer and wine only. A
Class G license authorizes the retail sale of beer and wine, in addition to alcoholic liquors.
Both classes of license allow consumption at tables only; bar sales are not permitted.
Current holders of Class G liquor licenses are Plum Garden Restaurant, Windhill Restaurant,
Touch of Italy and Green Street Café.
All the necessary documents have been submitted and the $700.00 annual liquor license fee
is paid. A copy of the liquor license application is attached for your review.
As Liquor Commissioner, Mayor Cuda recommends the City Council to approve the
application for a Class G Liquor License from Michael’s Bistro, Inc. d/b/a Michael’s Bistro.

RE: Annual Liquor License Renewals
RECOMMENDATION: 1. To approve the 2001/2002 renewal of Liquor Licenses for
the establishments on the attached list subject to
satisfactory fingerprint results of the new owners and/or
managers.
2. To approve the attached Ordinance decreasing the number
of Class A liquor licenses from 25 to 24; increasing the
number of Class G licenses from four to five; and
decreasing the number of Class H liquor licenses from
three to two.
Pursuant to Chapter 4 of the City of McHenry Municipal Code, liquor establishments
located in the City limits must renew their licenses annually with the City of McHenry by
April 30 (the end of the fiscal year). Attached for your review is the 2001-02 list of
establishments that have submitted their liquor license renewal applications.
In addition, all new owners and/or managers must be fingerprinted. The results should be
received from the Illinois State Police within the next six to eight weeks. As always,
approval of those Liquor license applications is conditioned upon receipt of satisfactory
fingerprint results. Those establishments are depicted on the attached list by an asterisk.
Due to the recent revocation of the Class A-2 liquor license for Sunshine Enterprises, Inc,
d/b/a First Draft Tavern, 3421 W. Elm St., the Class A-2 liquor license will not be
renewed. Therefore, it is recommended to approve the attached ordinance
decreasing the number of Class A liquor licenses in force at one time from 25 to 24.
The attached ordinance also reflects changes necessary due to the move by Michael’s
Bistro from a Class H liquor license to a Class G liquor license.
As Liquor Commissioner, Mayor Cuda recommends the renewal of all liquor licenses for the
establishments on the attached list, subject to satisfactory fingerprint results from the new
owners and/or managers; and the approval of the attached Ordinance decreasing the
number of Class A liquor licenses from 25 to 24; increasing the number of Class G license
from four to five; and decreasing the number of Class H liquor licenses from three to two.
