Attachments AGENDA SUPPLEMENT TO: Mayor and City Council FROM: Bill Hobson, Management Assistant for Community Relations FOR: March 21, 2005 Regular City Council Meeting RE: McHenry Lions Club Annual Carnival Attachments: Letter from McHenry Lions Club Special Use Application Background For the past 12 years, the McHenry Lions Club has hosted its annual carnival in Petersen Park. Each year, proceeds from the carnival provide aid for the sight and hearing impaired of McHenry County. This year, the Lions Club is requesting to host the event at Petersen Park on Wednesday, June 8 through Saturday, June 11, 2005. They also request permission for the installation of temporary advertising signs and waiver of all associated fees. Proposed locations for the temporary signs are listed below: Riverside Drive & McCullom Lake Road Route 120 and Chapel Hill Road Route 31 and Pearl Street Route 31 and High Street Route 31 and McCullom Lake Road Recommendation It is staff’s recommendation to approve the request from the McHenry Lions Club for the temporary use of Petersen Park, installation of temporary advertising signs, and waiver of all associated fees for the Annual Lions Club Carnival on June 8 through June 11, 2005. AGENDA SUPPLEMENT TO: Mayor and City Council FROM: Douglas K. Maxeiner, City Administrator FOR: March 21, 2005 Regular City Council Meeting RE: Request for Class A Liquor License from China Light, Inc. d/b/a as China Light Restaurant, 1266 North Green Street. Recommendation: To approve the request for a Class A Liquor License from China Light, Inc. d/b/a China Light Restaurant, 1266 North Green Street and an ordinance increasing the number of Class A liquor licenses from 24 to 25. A liquor application was submitted by Paul Zeitler, property owner and President of China Light, Inc. requesting a Class A liquor license at 1266 N. Green Street. Mr. Zeitler intends to reopen the China Light Restaurant. The City Council may recall that the restaurant was closed in 2003 due to a fire on the second floor of the building. If approved, Mr. Zeitler is respectfully requesting that the liquor license not be in effect until May 1, 2005 for the 2005/2006-renewal year, as renovations to the restaurant building will not be completed until spring 2005. Mr. Zeitler has hired Hugo Quan former owner and manager of the China Light Restaurant, as manager. Mr. Zeitler and Mr. Quan have been fingerprinted, met with Mayor Low, submitted all required information, and all required fees have been paid. In addition, the staff at China Light Restaurant will be required to receive BASSETT training. It is the recommendation of the Mayor/Liquor Control Commissioner to approve the request for a Class A Liquor License from China Light, Inc. d/b/a China Light Restaurant at 1266 North Green Street effective May 1, 2005 and the attached ordinance increasing the number of Class A liquor licenses from 24 to 25. mmg MAYOR’S REPORT TO: City Council FROM: Mayor Susan E. Low FOR: March 21, 2005 Regular City Council Meeting RE: Appointment to the Landmark Commission City resident Michelle (Shelly) Trost has applied for membership to the McHenry Landmark Commission. Currently, there are two vacancies on the commission due to resignations received from Dawn Johnson and Susan Hendrickson. As a result of my discussion with the Chairman of the Landmark Commission, I intend to appoint Ms. Trost as the newest member to the commission, assuming the term vacated by Susan Hendrickson. For your review, attached is a copy of her application. If you have any comments or objections to the appointment, please contact me prior to the meeting, thank you. mmg
