Maxeiner, City Administrator FOR: Regular City Council Meeting RE: CONSENT AGENDA TO: Mayor and City Council FROM: Douglas K. Maxeiner, City Administrator FOR: February 7, 2005 Regular City Council Meeting RE: Year 2005/2006 Farm Lease Agreements RECOMMENDATION. Authorize the Mayor’s execution of Lease Agreements with: 1) James P. Finch for lease of 26-acres of the former Levy Property for one- year term beginning March 1, 2005 2) Tom King for lease of former Cunat Property for one-year term beginning March 1, 2005 3) Scott Chambers for lease of Petersen Farm for one-year term beginning March 1, 2005 The city leases portions of the former Levy Property, former Cunat property, and Petersen Farm to tenant farmers. The current lease agreements expire on February 28, 2005. All three tenants wish to renew for another year. Leases are brought before the City Council early in the year to allow the farmers to complete any postseason land preparation necessary for next year’s growing season. Rent. A 2.1% increase in the lease payment for the Levy and former Cunat properties is incorporated in the attached agreements pursuant to the rate of inflation based on the Consumer Price Index for Chicago, Gary, Kenosha published by the U.S. Department of Labor. The scope of the lease with Scott Chambers for the Petersen Farm property has been reduced to limit agricultural activity to crop production– animals and livestock will not be permitted on the premises. This change was made at the recommendation of the Parks and Recreation Department to guard against pollution of the nearby wetlands. Due to this change, staff is not requesting an increase in rent for the Petersen Farm property.
