RESOLUTION NO. R-10-11
A Resolution Supporting H.R. 3255 and H.R. 9124
"A Bill which Amends Section 218 of the Social
Security Act to provide that a policeman or fire-
man who has social security coverage pursuant to
State Agreement as an individual employee and not
as a member of a State or local retirement system
may elect to terminate such coverage if he is sub-
sequently required to become a member of such a
retirement system. "
WHEREAS, H.B. NUMBERS H.R. 3255 and 9124 have been
introduced in Congress to amend Section 218 of the Social
Security Act, to provide that a policeman or fireman who
has Social Security Coverage pursuant to a State Agreement
and is also covered by a Retirement System, of which he is
required under State or local law to be a member, may ter-
minate his coverage under the Social Security System; and
WHEREAS, the ( /I ?, of ne. yV y has created a
Police Pension Fund as required by law, and members of the
Police Department are subject to the provisions of the
Illinois Pension Code and participate in the Police Pension
Fund; and,
WHEREAS, members of the l ' e.-M:A/RI' Police Department
presently pay Social Security taxes and also pay for parti-
cipation in the Police Pension Fund; now,
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the M yor and the City

SECTION 1• That the Mayor and City Council of the G /Ty
of Ai , ef/�/,Q/ , Illinois, support the House Bill Numbers
H.R. 32 5 and 9124 presently pending in the Congress of the
United States of America and urge passage of this important
legislation.
SECTION 2 : That copies of this Resolution he sent to
all Representatives and Senators in Congress advising them
of our support of H. R. 3255 and H.R. 9124 and urging passage
of this important legislation.
