HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolutions - R-33-1 - 03/08/1933 - Honoring John Walsh 3- 33 R-33-I Council meeting of the City Council of the City of McHenry. Peter Doherty, Mayor, presiding. Alderman 11. ,, w, Fi offered the following Resolution, and moved its adoption: - � "WHEREAS, John Walsh, City Marshall of the City of McHenry has been summoned from our midst. and, WHEREAS, the said John Walsh, more affectionately known as "Jack" Walsh., has labored diligently and earnestly in behalf of the City of McHenry for the past forty..two years as City Marshall and Chief of Police of the City of McHenry, and WHER FAS, the said John Walsh has, by his good advice and thru his kindness of heart been a friend and advisor to both young and old in said City during the past forty-two years and has devoted his life to the service of the people of McHenry and- given unsparingly of his time and strength as a servant of the people and of the City of McHenry, without thought of himself, and WHEREAS his long hours of service throughout the past forty-two years and his untiring devotion to duty have taken up the best years of his life , NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of McHenry, does hereby extend its sympathy to Mrs LoRell A Walsh and to the family of the said Jack Walsh. The City of McHenry has sustained an irreparable loss, a trustworthy servant of the City and one who could be depended on in every emergency has passed on to a better reward, and a vacancy in the City administration is left that cannot be filled. We realize that you of his family have also sustained an even greater loss and as members of the City Council of the City of Mc- Henry, we wish to extend our sympathy to the bereaved members of his family and we want you to know we appreciate the great service that Jack Walsh has ren- dered to the City of McHenry and to the citizens of said City throughout the many years of his service and that he was the most valuable employee in the service of the City and that his place cannot be filled. We and our predecessors in office, had been accustomed to lean on him too heavily and because of his kind disposition, placed more burdens on him than we should have, but he never faltered in the performance of his duties and went out of his way to do more than he was required. We assure you that if there is any assistance or help of any sort that can be rendered you in this hour of sorrow, that we, the City Council of the City of McHenry, wish you to feel free to call on us, and we again offer our heartfelt sympathy to you of his family who have sustained this great loss." Motion seconded by Alderman IJ A.. t i-Lt. On roll call the following Aldermen voted aye: Overton, Wattles, Barbian, Kreutzer, Schaefer. Nays: None.
