ROUTE 31 CORRIDOR
WHEREAS, the Draft Environmental Impact Statement for FAP 420
states; "the most severe adverse impacts on travel conditions
caused by the construction of FAP 420 would be on Illinois Route
31 and Illinois Route 120 in McHenry," and
WHEREAS, said Draft Environmental Impact Statement further states;
"installation of an additional interchange west of McHenry could
successfully intercept through-traffic --- destined for FAP 420
before it would enter the City of McHenry, and
WHEREAS, it appears that the "Fox Valley Freeway" is a dead issue
as it relates to McHenry County
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the Mayor and City Council of
the City of McHenry, Illinois:
1. That the Illinois Department of Transportation
undertake a location study of the Illinois Route
31 corridor from northwest of McHenry to Illinois
Route 72 in Kane County, and
2. That a westerly by-pass of the City of McHenry
with an interchange with proposed FAP 420 be con-
sidered as an integral part of the study, and
3. That such location study be undertaken at the
earliest possible date so that the City can
logically and realistically plan its westerly
growth and thereby reduce to a minimum the impact
of a future major highway west of the City.
