HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolutions - R-78-11 - 04/03/1978 - Sun Day R-78-11 THIS RESOLUTION, being presented this 3rd day of April, 1978, before the Mayor and City Council Of the City of McHenry, Illinois, that WHEREAS the Sun is absolutely essential to life on Earth, providing warmth and light, and energy for the growing of green plants; and WHEREAS the Sun is an inexhaustible source of energy, and doesn't foul the air, land, or water; and WHEREAS the Sun, even when not shining, makes the winds to blow, the clouds to form, and the rains to fall; and WHEREAS, with utilization, Solar Energy will become less costly, in contrast to other energies which are rapidly increasing in cost; and WHEREAS utilization of Solar Energy is labor-intensive, creating many more jobs per dollars invested than the other,ccapital-intensive energy indmstries; and WHEREAS the technology exists today to capture the Sun' s direct energy (sunlight) and indirect energy (wind and water power, and biomass such as wood) , and is even now being used; and WHEREAS Wednesday, May 3, 1978 was chosen as Sun Day because it falls midway between the Spring Equinox and the Summer Solstice, and because students and schools will be readily able to participate in its celebration; NOW THEREFORE IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED that the City _of McHenry proclaim May 3, 1978 as Sun Day, and May 1 through May 7 as Sun Week; and IT IS FURTHER RESOLVED that all citizens of the City of be encouraged to participate in this celebration of the coming Solar Age. signed )7F/L24 7;:i Mayor City of McHenry 1111 N.
