HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolutions - R-78-20 - 07/18/1978 - Water metering backup for NIPC / / R-78-20 RESOLUTION CALLING UPON THE CITY OF CHICAGO TO JOIN OTHER MUNICIPALITIES IN THE NORTHEASTERN ILLINOIS AREA IN A MAJOR AND VITAL EFFORT TO CONSERVE WATER BY REQUIRING THE METERING OF ALL RESIDENTIAL WATER USERS WHEREAS, water is a precious commodity becoming more valuable with each passing day; and WHEREAS, the conservation of water is becoming vitally important to the continued well-being of all citizens of the area surrounding the City of Chicago; and WHEREAS, the City of Chciago draws its water supply from Lake Michigan; and WHEREAS, the City of Chicago supplies a few of the suburban communities nearby with Lake Michigan water; and WHEREAS, the City of Chicago would be able to supply more communities with water if the City of Chicago was better able to conserve water usage within its own boundaries; and WHEREAS, the City of Chicago does not require the metering of residential water users; and WHEREAS, the metering of water provides a definite means for each residential water user to become more aware of the water used, and thus provides a means for the residential water user to conserve this natural resource; and WHEREAS, the City of McHenry is only one of many municipalities in north- eastern Illinois with the potential for water supply problems in the future; and WHEREAS, in an issue involving this most valuable of natural resources , all units of government should unite in a concerted effort to guarantee the optimal availability of water to all citizens; and WHEREAS, the City of McHenry desires to promote equal efforts among all units of government in northeastern Illinois for the purpose of conserving water. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF McHENRY, ILLINOIS, that the City of Chicago is called upon to meet its obligation and responsibility of good water stewardship to its own citizens and to the citizens of northeastern Illinois by mandating the installation of water meters in all residential properties at the earliest possible date in order to guarantee the optimal availability of water to all people in northeastern Illinois. )11 - -74Mayor ATTEST: City Clerk
