HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolutions - R-78-22 - 08/21/1978 - Commending Gary Leider • R-78-22 RESOLUTION WHEREAS, Gary W. Leider, of 517 Kensington, has distinguished himself as a citizen of McHenry with his concern with the welfare of his fellow man, and WHEREAS, on August 4, 1978, at approximately 2:50 P.M. , a car driven by James R. Ball , Sr. struck a garage at 602 Devonshire, McHenry after Mr. Ball apparantly suffered a heart attack. When Gary Leider heard the crash and saw smoke coming from the area, he advised his wife to call the fire department and then he went to the scene of the accident. Although the garage and front end of Mr. Ball 's auto were in flames, Mr. Leider pried the driver's door open, pulled the victim to a safe area and started cardio-pulmonary resusci- tation. An explosion occurred and Mr. Leider again pulled Mr.- Ball to a safe area and continued CPR until the Rescue Squad arrived, and WHEREAS, Mr. Leider's actions during the tragedy were not only brave and heroic, but also pointedly exposed his unselfish concern for his fellow man. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that Gary W. Leider be commended by the Mayor and the City Council of the City of McHenry, on behalf of the citizens of the community, for his courageous and unselfish action. Motion by Adams , seconded by Datz , that the above resolution be adopted and that a copy be presented to Gary W. Leider.
