HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolutions - R-83-30 - 12/05/1983 - Taxpayer Relief Act R-83-30 RESOLUTION WHEREAS, the City of McHenry has been asked by some of its citizens to consider the submission of an advisory referendum question, as herein- after specifically set forth, on the question of the Taxpayer Relief Act of 1984; said question to be submitted to the voters of the City of McHenry at the general primary election scheduled for March 20, 1984; and WHEREAS, the results of such local referendum will constitute the opinion of the residents of the City of McHenry regarding the Taxpayer Relief Act of 1984; and WHEREAS, local public opinion on such matter is important to local public officials and state legislators in a determination of what is wise public policy for the people of the State of Illinois and this City; and WHEREAS, it is deemed by the Mayor of this City to be in the best public interest to survey the opinion of the voters by submitting such question to the voters at the general primary election; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE MAYOR OF THE CITY OF MCHENRY , MCHENRY COUNTY, ILLINOIS, as follows: It is the determination of the Mayor of the City of McHenry that the following question of public policy shall be submitted to the voters of this City as an advisory referendum at the general primary election scheduled for March 20, 1984, to wit: "Should the members of the Illinois General Assembly representing the people of this City vote in favor of the Taxpayer Relief Act of 1984 which closes tax loop- holes for big multinational corporations and use the revenue to permanently cut the state utility tax on consumers from 5% to 22, saving Illinois families and businesses $300 million a year?" Said referendum to be conducted, in all respects, in accordance with the provisions of the Illinois Election Code pertaining to the conduct of the general primary election, and in accordance with this Resolution of the City of McHenry calling said election for March 20, 1984. PASSED this 5th day of December, 1983. APPROVED this 5th day of December, 1983.
