HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolutions - R-84-14 - 05/07/1984 - Senate3 Bill S1578 Anti-Trust Legislation R-84-14 RESOLUTION WHEREAS, the disastrous impact on units of local government of a U.S. Supreme Court decision in the Boulder, Colorado anti-trust case, and other similar case decisions,will not only be costly to municipali- ties in dollars, but the right of local self-government will be severely damaged; and WHEREAS, these decisions will make local governments unable to govern in a manner necessary to protect the health, safety and welfare of their local citizens; and WHEREAS, dedicated, qualified, competent and honest elected officials will no longer seek public office; and HWEREAS, the threat of lawsuits being brought for no other purpose than to intimidate local governments to give in to private interests is creating fear in the hearts of all local government officials and having an adverse affect on these officials being able to carry out their official duties; and WHEREAS, government of the people, by the people and for the people, will suffer adversely. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Mayor and City Council of the City of McHenry, McHenry County, Illinois that the City strongly urges the passage of Senate Bill S1578 in order to alleviate the effects of these recent Court decisions so that we can proceed with the purpose of our existence - the protection of the health, safety and welfare of our citizens.
