HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolutions - R-84-24 - 08/06/1984 - RTA Board and Rignwood and Richmond R - 84 - 24 RESOLUTION WHEREAS, the Regional Transportation Authority (RTA) discontinued rail passenger service on the Chicago and Northwestern (C. $N.W. ) line between McHenry and Richmond , and WHEREAS, the C. $N.W. has abandoned all service on said line between Ringwood and Richmond and has removed rails and ties from this segment of the line, and WHEREAS, the County has had a long standing commitment from the RTA to preserve the C. $N.W. right of way between Richmond and McHenry based on the following : 1 . Ordinance #77-276 adopted December 1 , 1977, by the RTA Board which stated in part as follows : "---it is the intention of the RTA to preserve the Chicago and Northwestern right-of-way between Richmond and McHenry for potential future public transportation use. " 2. The commuter rail component of the Chicago Transportation Study ' s Year 2000 Plan which stated in part as follows: "The existing rail right of way between McHenry and Richmond will be preserved should future growth in this area warrant the reintroduction of commuter rail service. " 3. During the November 25 , 1980 County Board Meeting, at which the RTA met -its statutory obligation and presented its annual program and budget , both Board Chairman Lewis Hill and Executive Director Bernie Ford publicly confirmed the RTA' s commitment to purchase the C. $N.W. right-of-way between Ringwood and Richmond. WHEREAS, we understand that the C. $N.W. is in the final stages of negotiations to sell their right-of-way between Ringwood and Richmond to the McHenry County Conservation District , now THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of McHenry, that the Board of Directors of the RTA honor its long standing commitment to McHenry County and take immediate action to acquire the C. $N.W. right-of-way between Ringwood and Richmond.
