HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolutions - R-86-1 - 01/08/1986 - Recycling ProgramR-86-1 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, all residents, businesses and municipalities of McHenry County produce solid wastes; and WHEREAS, the disposal of solid wastes is a growing problem; and WHEREAS, recycling reduces the need for landfills, saves land, natural resources and energy; and WHEREAS, the recommended plan in the McHenry County Total Waste Management Study establishes a goal to recycle 23% of the County's solid wastes; and WHEREAS, successful implementation of the plan depends on the availability of markets for the materials separated and collected for recycling; and WHEREAS, purchasing products made of recycled wastes improves markets for recycled materials; and WHEREAS, successful implementation of the plan also depends on the cooperation of McHenry County residents, business persons, and local officials, NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved that the City of McHenry hereby urges all residents, business persons and government officials to help solve the waste problem by participating in existing recycling programs; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City of McHenry hereby also urges all residents, business persons and government officials to work cooperatively to establish new recycling programs; and that the City of McHenry will work cooperatively with the McHenry County Defenders to establish new recycling programs and to educate City residents in the means of supporting recycling programs (e.g., how to effectively source separate waste), and BE IT STILL FURTHER RESOLVED that the City of McHenry hereby additionally urges all residents, business persons and government officials to help create new markets for recycled wastes by purchasing products made from recycled materials.
