WHEREAS, crime has been, and continues to be, one of the major
problems facing the United States, the State of Illinois and the
City of McHenry, and
WHEREAS, one of the most effective tools available for solving
crimes is identification and matching of fingerprints left at crime
scenes, and
WHEREAS, Police Departments everywhere have on file presently,
millions of sets of fingerprints which presents a problem for
matching sets of prints in a timely manner, and
WHEREAS, there exists today an Automated Fingerprint Identification
System which can rapidly and accurately match sets of fingerprints
using computer technology.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of
McHenry supports state funding for an Automated Fingerprint
Identification System for the Northern Illinois Police Crime
Laboratory.
