HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolutions - RS-93-8 - 03/15/1993 - Support School District 15 Referendumr RS-93-8 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, the character of a community is, to a great extent, determined by the quality of education provided to the future leaders of the community - our children; and, WHEREAS, the citizens of our community have long recognized the importance of a good education and now must reaffirm their commitment to providing the necessary tools needed; and, WHEREAS, McHenry School District #15 is placed in a precarious position because of the State Aid Formula which takes away money provided by the State for every dollar raised through increased assessed valuation and the mandated tax cap; and WHEREAS, McHenry School District #15 has not had an increase in their education fund for more than twenty-five years and now must ask the voters of the community to approve an increase in the tax levy for this fund; and WHEREAS, because our children look to us for leadership, ideals and values, we must now show that we can provide the leadership needed to ensure that a quality education will continue. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of McHenry go on record in support of School District #15's referendum to be voted on at the Tuesday, April 20, 1993 General Election for a 58¢ increase in the education fund. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Council urge all voters in School District #15 to reaffirm their commitment to quality education for our future leaders by recognizing the critical role that education plays in our community and its economy.
