RS-93-8
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, the character of a community is, to a great extent,
determined by the quality of education provided to the future leaders of the
community - our children; and,
WHEREAS, the citizens of our community have long recognized the
importance of a good education and now must reaffirm their commitment to
providing the necessary tools needed; and,
WHEREAS, McHenry School District #15 is placed in a precarious
position because of the State Aid Formula which takes away money provided by
the State for every dollar raised through increased assessed valuation and
the mandated tax cap; and
WHEREAS, McHenry School District #15 has not had an increase in their
education fund for more than twenty-five years and now must ask the voters
of the community to approve an increase in the tax levy for this fund; and
WHEREAS, because our children look to us for leadership, ideals and
values, we must now show that we can provide the leadership needed to ensure
that a quality education will continue.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of
McHenry go on record in support of School District #15's referendum to be
voted on at the Tuesday, April 20, 1993 General Election for a 58¢ increase
in the education fund.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Council urge all voters in
School District #15 to reaffirm their commitment to quality education for
our future leaders by recognizing the critical role that education plays in
our community and its economy.
