RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE CONTINUATION OF THE
CHAIN-O-LAKES FOX RIVER WATERWAY MANAGEMENT AGENCY
WHEREAS, the Chain-O-Lakes and Fox River is an important
resource for our area; and
WHEREAS, the Chain-O-Lakes and Fox River is the one unit
of local government with authority over the entire
Chain-O-Lakes and Fox River between the Wisconsin State line
and the Algonquin dam; and
WHEREAS, the Chain-O-Lakes Fox River Waterway Management
Agency was created to improve and maintain the Chain-O-Lakes
and Fox River, and to that end conduct water quality, and
dredging projects, debris removal, safety programs and fund
additional safety patrols, and
WHEREAS, the Chain-O-Lakes Fox River Waterway Management
Agency is a user fee supported agency, paid for by boaters, and
therefore reduces the burden on local property tax supported
units of local government programs; and
WHEREAS, the Chain-O-Lakes Fox River Waterway Management
Agency is scheduled to cease to exist as of January 1, 1995, at
which time responsibility for the maintenance of the waterway
system will return to the State of Illinois and other units of
local government along the waterway unless State legislative
action takes place to continue the Agency.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of
the City of McHenry support the continuation of the
Chain-O-Lakes Fox River Waterway Management Agency in order to
allow it to pursue its mission to improve and maintain
thelChain-O-Lakes and Fox River.
