HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolutions - RS-95-17 - 09/20/1995 - Domesting Violence Awareness MonthR S- u-' 11 RESOLUTION WHEREAS, October, 1995, has been declared McHENRY COUNTY DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AWARENESS MONTH; and WHEREAS, Acts of domestic violence occur every 15 seconds in the United States; and WHEREAS, Approximately one half of all couples experience at least one violent incident during their relationship; WHEREAS, Six million American women are beaten each year by their husbands or boy friends; WHEREAS, Twelve percent of elder women are victims of domestic violence; WHEREAS, Battering is the single major cause of injury to women, more frequent than auto accidents, muggings and rapes combined; WHEREAS, Children are emotionally traumatized by witnessing family violence; with many of them growing up to repeat the pattern as victim or abuser; WHEREAS, Through continued public awareness education and enforcement of domestic violence laws, family violence can be reduced; WHEREAS, McHENRY COUNTY DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AWARENESS MONTH provides communities and organizations an opportunity to join together to work towards decreasing domestic violence. NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by this City of McHenry, McHenry County, Illinois, that in recognition of this opportunity to impact domestic violence, the City of McHenry joins with other organizations across the County to proclaim October, 1995, in McHenry County, Illinois, DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AWARENESS MONTH, and encourages the residents of the City of McHenry, Illinois to observe this month with appropriate programs and to make an effort to reduce domestic violence.
