HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolutions - RS-95-19 - 10/04/1995 - Recognizing Officer Laycock for DARERS-95-19 RESOLUTION WHEREAS, the D.A.R.E (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) Program was first created in 1983 to present a formal curriculum by uniformed police officers to Fifth and Sixth graders to help them resist peer pressure by developing self confidence and self esteem; and, WHEREAS, children will be able to say "no" to drugs by resisting peer pressure through the 17 lessons taught in the D.A.R.E. program; and, WHEREAS, the D.A.R.E. program was started this Fall at Landmark School and will be expanded to all the Fifth Grade classrooms in McHenry District schools; and, WHEREAS, a parent involvement committee composed of Carol Chrisman, President; Dave Maire, Vice President; Mary Brunner, Treasurer; and Retha Folkes, Secretary, was formed to advance the program in the McHenry community; and, WHEREAS, this Committee has educated the public and parents about the D.A.R.E. program and has a goal to reach $10,000 in funds for the purchase of supplies for the classes and the training of two additional police officers to teach the program; and, WHEREAS, Officer Patricia Laycock of the McHenry Police Department, who attended the intensive two -week seminar, currently teaches the program in McHenry; and, WHEREAS, the Parent Committee and Officer Laycock have devoted many hours developing, publicizing and funding this program in our community. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Mayor and City Council of the City of McHenry, Illinois go on record as recognizing the importance of the D.A.R.E. program in today's society. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Mayor and City Council expresses its gratitude to the McHenry Parent Committee and Officer Patricia Laycock for their efforts on this worthwhile project.
